Interesting in the Rockford 12+ how WGN beats both local talk stations! (WNTA and WROK)

From what I can see they always have. Tough to beat a 50kw low on the dial signal 50 miles down the road. I'm surpized WLS and WBBM don't do better. Same thing holds true in other similar situations. KFI beats a lot of smaller market news/talk operations, etc. WGN main advantage would seem to be the Cubs (it's always more official sounding on the flagship station) and large amounts of local programming vs network stuff like Hannity, Limbaugh...etc. where the audience is split between WLS and WROK for example.

Hats off to Maverick for putting some good stuff on that you can't find elsewhere on the dial. Ed Shultz, Boorts, Bob Kwessel, etc.

Wow.. I just noticed that Nine's numbers in Rockford are better than they are in Chicago.. Hey Newsweb.. How about adding Rockford into your Legal on 92.5 and acknowledging that you have listeners out here?

Yep, just noticed that myself...

Random Rockford Ratings Ramblings

1) I guess B103's Doug Daniels isn't the programming guru he thinks he is.
2) 97ZOK's dip was an aberation and not a downward trend. If it was a trend,
congrats and not just fixing it, but improving it. Having shotgun xx.x's
for Cumulus is impressive IMHO.
3) Country reigns supreme and JVL's billboard expenditures seem wise.
4) WNTA's slide proved a change was necessary, but did they make the right
changes? Will leftist talk and Bruce Butler shore it up? (I say no.)
5) WROK continues to prove that NewsTalk is an up and down proposition in
Rockford, unless you're the Voice of Rockford - WGN. Seymour of Rockford,
through a Spike Odell filter. Live at Five with John Williams.
6) Speaking of WGN - while it is a fantastic heritage station, there is no
reason why they should beat half of the local stations in the market.
7) Maverick will have to go through another six months without the Agency's
best friend - a station in the Top Two.
8) Out of Market stations shouldn't be a real story in this underserved radio
market, and yet WKPO does almost as well as your NewsTalkers, an out of
market Adult R&B 106.3 pulls in numbers that rival the two classic rock
stations, and WDEK 9FM gets a x.x while the Flagship of the Rockford
Baseball Team (WRHL) doesn't even show up.
9) Y95 has begun the climb back, pulling close to The Eagle, which had to be
very disappointed with this last showing. Sky's music could keep The Eagle
out in front though, he's a real pro in selecting the music. One thing's
for sure - Y95 is cheaper to operate with Bob and Tom and Alice Cooper.
10) WQFL should not be pulling in anything less than a 2.7 in Rockford. Point
of fact, whoever PDs this station needs to fix what's wrong. It doesn't
help that Christian AC is a female demo and Q seems to be playing songs that
I would think test well with men, ie Rock.
11) The X proves they are solid. Never spectacular, but for an edgy, Active
Rock station in a conservative market with a good sized minority population,
The X consistently is up there in the mix - of course, it'd be nice to see
them even higher, as in the days of Pete MacMurray.
12) Oldies Radio Survives in the Greater Rockford Area with Oregon's 95.7 WSEY
pulling in a .......... x.x! Someone get some sales people in Rockford and
try to get a little money. Prediction: RiverHawks on 95.7 Next year, and
maybe even the IceHogs. (Unlikely, yes, but go out on a limb.)

Unanswerable questions: What will Maverick Media do with Freeport? Will they let 92.1 remain, or will they try to move this thing? I remember reading or hearing something a long time ago that 92.1 could be moved closer to Rockford, not much closer, but closer. 92.1 could be a difference maker, but not in Freeport... and spin 1570.

Re: Random Rockford Ratings Ramblings

A quick question. I only saw the 12+ ratings on R&R but it looks like B had a pretty good jump there. Did their ratings drop in their key demos?

B103's 12+ numbers went down (can't quote exact numbers, sorry Shizam for doing it earlier, forgot the rules in my zeal to pretend I knew what I was talking about) significantly. Look closer at the Fall 04 to Spring 05 numbers. Key demo numbers should hold at a certain rate for an AC station even if you have a monkey sitting in front of Selector.

I don't think Sky selects music... unless he's the MD or APD which I don't think he is, or has ever been. (I could be wrong) I've never heard of a jock picking music. I do think that both stations play pretty much the same stuff, but Y95 plays some different stuff from time to time.

Not only is it more official-sounding, but when people want Cubs games they
KNOW they can find them on WGN. WROK doesn't air all of them, and Rockford
residents also can't get all of them on TV.

Its OK to be wrong.

Sky Drysdale is the CURRENT Music Director and Midday Host for The Eagle... and I am quite aware that jocks don't select the music anymore but thanks for reminding me.

Really? I honestly had no idea... I know they made a big deal out of him going over there, but I didn't hear anything about being MD. OOOPPSSS!! sorry!!
By the way, was he MD at Y95 too?
