Rocky Allen Gone From WPLJ

It still puzzles me that Citadel would continue wasting time trying to make WPLJ work in it's current form. Why would management continue fighting for the same piece of the pie as Fresh, Lite, KTU, and CBS FM? Flip the lame format and do country already. You would own the format, nobody will compete against you, and to be honest you would do quite well with it. So you say Country doesn't work in NYC? Well hasn't it been a know fact that PLJ has always targeted in NJ and Connecticut more than NYC? Newsflash....it plays well in those parts. You would also be able to steal some shares from Lite and Fresh in that they both play the likes of Shania Twain, Faith Hill, and Taylor Swift. There is nothing to lose by doing it. Of course if they dilly dally over it CBS could beat them to the punch with Krock.

the BIG Show with Scott and Todd in the morning followed by WABC for the rest of the day? Is that what you are hearing? Or will it be MY 95.5 FM?

Scott and Todd will be working on the Citadel properties' landscaping. Full simulcast.

I don't think I made my point clear enough.....WPLJ is a MONEY MAKER....I'm an accounting major and it doesn't take someone like me to figure out that you don't touch the music format of something that sells. If they wanted to flip they would have already. Citadel know it's WPLJ. No matter what form of Hot AC they are, it will SELL.

They *were* a money maker. While we don't have new billing figures for PLJ yet, reading between the lines between what's been printed in the papers and the trades, and what Suleman has been saying, is that PLJ's billing is dropping. The numbers haven't been that strong for a while, but they had billing to sustain them, as you pointed out. Problem is, it might be drying up now, as they are getting boxed in from all angles...Fresh grabbing many of the soccer moms, CBS-FM grabbing many people who wanted to hear older pop/rock music, K-Rock and now 'RXP grabbing a piece of the pie as well. I wouldn't be surprised, next time the billing figures come out, to see PLJ having taken a big dip, and if that's the case...we'll probably see further cost-cutting at the station, which might end up leading to a format change to something much lower-maintenance.

Not a money maker anymore. The times have changed and there are too many stations fighting for the same crumbs. You have to think outside the box and go where nobody else is...that's what will make some money.

Your point is no longer valid. WPLJ's billing has dropped significantly.
So much so, that Citadel mentioned that station SPECIFICALLY in discussing its poor revenue.

Might Rocky resurface at Fresh? He had a rather decent female following. Kind of a good way for CBS to stick it yet again to WPLJ.

Why would Fresh pick him up? Fresh is the anti-personality station, with the likes of "Mike" on the air saying a few words every 15-20 minutes.

i loved rocky and was so happy when he returned. I listened to Todd yesterday morning and he was supposed to go to nashville for a convention or something like that but had to postphone because scott lost his voice. Country format????????

Scott probably lost his voice doing ID's and promos for all of those new True Oldies affiliates.

I can't believ they are gone, I thought after not hearing them for a week maybe they were on vacation or something.

I listened to them eveyday and everyone knew no to touch the radio on my desk or in the car when they were on.

Does anyone have any info where they went ? I am desperate for a laugh after a hard day at work !

 :p
