Rocky Point Movie

I know technically this is not about radio/tv. But many stations were involved with the park over the years.
And from what I understand we will be able to see the old commercials/jingles in the movie. When the movie
opens. I hope it does really well. And that old jingle is really catchy I must say!!!

Tonight's opening of the movie in Woonsocket is sold out, but it's playing next Thursday at 7pm at the Jane Pickens in Newport, and both Saturday & Sunday September 29th and 30th at the Narragansett Theater at Narragansett Pier RI.

Rocky Point movie??? Rocky Point movie???

"We've got amusement park fun, in the Rhode Island sun. Come on down to Rocky Point. Ride the rides and get cool, in our salt water pool. It's a place for family fun. We've got your summer at Rocky Point."

I remember putting together "Dance Diva "CeCe Peniston ( We got a love thang ) Show on for Kix 106 at Rocky Point . Its a shame that Old Lincoln Park MA , That Park in Hull MA , Revere Beach MA, Whalom Park MA, and Rocky Point are all gone .

Just TRY to resist the analogy to radio consolidation. Just TRY!

Rocky Point owner Conrad Ferla had a lot in common with the so-called "mom and pop" station owners whose homespun showbiz we recall so wistfully now that a-handful-of-big-companies-with-plummeting-stock-prices own so many stations.

The-first-of-three-times I moved to RI was 1974, from my native Springfield, to take the WPRO night show job.

Back home we had Riverside Park, which we locals thought of as shabby.
By comparison, Rocky Point seemed better.
Situated as it was on THAT real estate, and with the legendary Shore Dinner Hall, it was more than just rides and booths.

Fast-forward to present day: Rocky Point and Lincoln Park are just fond memories, clobbered by guess who...a souped-up, cleaned-up Riverside Park, reborn as Six Flags New England.

To ME, what's-fun-about going-to-Twin River is GREYHOUND RACES.
Then again, I was the LAST-on-my-Block to find out about a certain slot machine...

Already heard the featured in some of the film is Giovanni as "The Voice of Rocky Point" from the late 80's and early 90's commercials

I can remember my Dad taking us in our boat to get chowder and clam cakes, and tying up at the dock there. The crowds at the Shore Dinner Hall...what a time to grow up!Not to mention seeing PRO and ICE down there.

I did see the movie. And its well done. Its very emotional. If you grew up in the area. And went to the park. You'll
understand why. As Holland wrote above SEE IT! I don't wanna give anything away. But you can't help but feel sad
when you see where some of the rides went to (Outside Of USA). The movie is great piece of history. And its nice knowing future generations are still singing The Rocky Point Jingle!!
