Rod Fritz - A Jewel In WRKO's Own Backyard

If anyone heard Rod Fritz this morning on WRKO filling in for the ailing Scott Allen Miller they would have heard one of the best talk show hosts in the city... and the suburbs too ;-)

Known for many years as a newsman Fritz handled the talk show as if he had been doing it for years. If I am not mistaken, Rod Fritz used to have his own talk show on WRKO on the weekends.

It is time for WRKO management [ whoever that is for the day ] to give Rod Fritz his own regular program. Once the new management dumps the nonsense of "Boston Tonight", Brian Whittimore's dismal failure, they should look at putting Rod Fritz in that time slot.

Hate to lose Fritz as a newsman but he has greater talent that he can't use just reading the news. As a combat Vietnam veteran he can bring a whole new perspective to the issues of the day. Wonder how he would handle draft dodger and 5 time deferment Dick "Live Bad Shot" Cheney and Texas "Fly Jim Beam" Bush.

Rod's a seasoned veteran, a consumate professional, and a gentleman.

In this market dating back to WEEI when it was all-news at 590, 850 WHDH, I think WMJX? News Bureau Chief for a time at Metro Networks in Boston. And of course, for several years now at WRKO.

There aren't many like him left in New England markets anyway. Metro Bureau Chief in Providence John Carpilio comes to mind. Solid broadcast journalist, just like Rod. I remember that John used to get thrown into situations where he would have to host unexpectedly when former Providence Mayor Buddy Cianci wouldn't show up when he was a talk show host at WHJJ years ago. And he did okay, especially with no prep time.

Probably a Carl Stevens at WBZ could do it now as well.

I don't want to say dinosaurs...but there aren't many versatile and knowlegable pros like Rod in Boston and John in Providence left.

Not sure how we got to Cheney and Bush in a discussion that supposedly was about Rod Fritz. Since you instead now wish to talk about draft dodging, let's do a little consistency check. Did you favor Clinton (draft dodger) or Bush (war hero) in 1992? Or how about in 1996, Clinton (draft dodger) or Dole (war hero)?

BTW: The national guard and its members are very honorable.

Regarding Rod, he does well as a talk show host. Not sure how being a veteran affects his talking skills though.

I grew up
> under LBJ May he burn in Hell.

On Howie's chumpline Monday (caller imitating Clinton): "LBJ? That's my
Mexican nickname, huh huh"

My own joke re: Clinton--did you hear Bill Clinton was in a bar the another night and someone threw a mug of beer at him? Fortunately, he was able to dodge
the draft...<P ID="signature">______________

Unfortunately Dick Cheney was next to him to lap up the brew before he went quail hunting....
