Roe Conn and Nick Digilio ousted in major WGN lineup change

Robert Feder reports that both Roe Conn (3-7PM weekday host) and Nick Digilio (11PM-4AM weekday host) are ousted in the latest talent shakeup by Nexstar Media Group management. Newsman Steve Bertrand is now going to host a daily news show from 4 to 7 PM and John Records Landecker has been made a full-time evening host. Anna Davlantes' show also gets one more hour of airtime.

See Feder's full article here.

I wonder if Landecker will be doing any "Boogie Checks" on WGN? Seriously, I think he will do well on talk radio.

Speculation on the new overnight sbow and will it be Coast to Coast?

If they air one of the conservative syn. shows they will be just another station. Really what set GN apart from the other AM'ers is a good overnight, leading into the early 4.00 am news.

Even if you didn't like Nick --I did-- you should be sorry he's gone and likely replaced by one of the usual suspects heard across the country who makes things unlistenable and not like what we grew up with. I'm sympathetic to a lack of incoming $$$ but this station can afford an overnight show. This hurts even though it was expected.

Overnights has not made money for any station for a long time. The syndicated shows are put in because they do not cost money... just inventory. And with some stations and markets, part of the inventory has to be provided in 6 AM to 7 PM times.

All a station can do today is control costs. Few, if any, significant major market stations are making money. So cutting the overnight and late night expenses to a minimum are essential tasks.

Why would a station whose revenue is off nearly 40% over the last 8 years spend anythin g on overnights?

are essential tasks
Well they've all done it. Long ago most of them. WGN did not so they must have felt overnights added something to morning drive. I don't know if Nick's show was the last show of its kind.

he's previously filled in a couple of times on radio - I think he should change his middle name to "Talk" :)
