Roger Hudson Out at KTRH

KTRH has news?!?

All joking aside, sad news for Roger Hudson and his family. Not to mention another blow to what once was our news home. I hope he lands on his feet soon. Perhaps another gain for the folks at Radio One?

I hope Roger does land at KROI. Perhaps KTRH can rebrand itself as Talk Radio 740, with the tag line "You know we're right - far right!"

Actually did just that not too long ago, stan. Became "Newstalk 740 KTRH" for a month or so, right before KROI flipped to all news. Changed right back to "Newsradio" soon after the launch though. Well, at least the moniker. Certainly not the format.

Don't ever see Hudson going to KROI. Talk among ALL KTRH exes who worked with him is that he was arrogant, talentless and ran off or had a hand in the firing of those who are no longer there, and actually boasted about it. Even sadder, according to those no longer there, is that the managers were well aware of this, were routinely warned about his damage and ineptitude and did absolutely nothing about it until now. Would love to know who or what finally got through to CC. No matter. Still too little too late for KTRH.

I know two people who worked for KTRH under Hudson and heard exactly the same things you mentioned. Both of them managed to get much better jobs after leaving KTRH.

This is 100% speculation. I can't back any of it up. This may have been the result of Shara Fryer coming aboard. It may have taken someone with a very deep history in the market who has credibility of titanium who knows how to communicate to Michael Berry what an imbecile he had working there. Roger Hudson cannot be reasoned with. I only communicated with Shara one time and walked away from the conversation feeling like I'd known her all of my life. Then again, she may have had absolutely nothing to do with it. Either/or, Houston radio is much better off now. I hear there's a stringer position open in Nome, Alaska! (As for KROI, that man is absolutely not welcomed anywhere near Greenway Plaza, knowing the many folks there.)

That's horrible, if true. Still, hate to hear of anyone losing their job like this, whether they are liked or not by their staff, or former staff as the case may be. He may have been doing the dirty work, but the marching orders were probably coming from a higher source than Roger Hudson. He may have very well been the middle man, and that could drive anyone dealing with that type of attitude to seem detached and even a bit snotty to those that work under his leadership. I blame Clear Channel. They'd make a saint want to cuss.

The guy was a joke. Sure, he could spot a story consistent with KTRH's extreme right-leaning format, but he had no other talent. He lacked any sort of respect from any of his co-workers, he was illiterate, and he'd even brag about how much money they paid him in an open forum. Not to mention his God complex when it came to those who lost their jobs. The whole country is better off without this guy on the air. He's a bum and I wouldn't give him a mop job. Not that he could even spell "mop" if his life depended on it.

Good riddance, and I speak for 99% of anyone who ever worked with him.

If Ktrh wants to cut out the stink they were aiming at the right office they should have hit it 4 years ago when Ericsson was in that office. Maybe San Antonio will start aiming higher and can erickson

I worked with Roger at KFBK in Sacramento (circa 2000) and really enjoyed working with him.

A bit harsh, don't you think?

I agree it is a little harsh. As someone who was also fired by KTRH in the early 90s, I can feel sympathy for Roger.

Having said that, any of the dozens of fine reporters and anchors who have worked at KTRH over the past 25 years will testify under oath that it was like the 9th Circle of Hell working under Laura Morris. Today, it seems KTRH management is digging the 10th Circle.

KTRH is a culture just like any other workplace. A toxic environment of any kind will turn even the best or most admirable into swine if they're in it long enough. Perhaps that's just how KTRH truly is. If you're one of the select cool kids in class, you'll never worry. Somebody told me once that they interviewed with the brass at KTRH and by the way they asked a question, they were looking for specific answers. When the person said what they wanted to hear, they lapped it up like cats at a bowl of milk and offered the person the job. That person turned it down. In a cliquish, bully culture, you'll be able to wear, do or say just about anything as long as the leader approves, and always have a good day. If you're not part of the clique or the leader gets bored with you, you're going to get beat up, bloodied, abused and eventually kicked out.

Don't see it happening. Opie and Berry "are" the KTRH franchise. That place just has nasty all over it.
