Roger Mudd on DePetro's Show

This morning Mr. DePetro had CBS television veteran Roger Mudd on his show talking about his new book. Now normally, this would be a very good “get”. Roger’s book discusses television then versus now. What does DePetro ask? “What was it like working with Walter Cronkite?” No wonder their demos skew so old! Walter Cronkite???

The big story in the news is Katie!! Many major newspapers have been running feature stories saying she’s leaving the network early. Get Mudd’s take on this. Is America just not ready for a female at 6:30? Why are her ratings so bad? Who should replace her? What do his friends inside of Black Rock tell him? NO. . .we get, “What was it like to work with Uncle Walter?” You have only 3-4 minutes, get to the meat. Get to the story that’s in the news and has people talking.

For a market the size of Providence, the morning man should be better prepared. Sounds like he is mailing it in.

Joint, You realize that Walter is in the area, right? And the question is not off base and I don't think Roger has had any dealings with Katie personally (and who knows, that may have been on the off limits questions list that came over)

Well we don't know if Roger has dealings with Katie, because he WASN'T asked! Plus, the same morning man mispronounced the name of the Masters winner all morning. BAD, show prep, period!

As for Walter being in the area, are we programming WPRO for him?

No, not programming for him; but it is something that might help with connection for the audience.

Also, if you've got 3-4 minutes, you have to pick and choose your questions, like I said, it might have been on an off basis list of subjects and with the amount of time he's been off air, I don't see it as such a big thing.
By no means am I defending him (I still can't bring myself to listen in the morning, even to try and catch traffic) as the whole time after the December storm, he sounded like a whiney girl.....
