Another TV news legend passes on. RIP Roger.
 
Another news anchor of my childhood passes. May he RIP.
 
I'm not sure any journalist had a better knowledge of Capitol Hill than did Mr. Mudd.
 
Yes, I think he was supposed to be the successor to Cronkite, but Rather got the spot. It should be noted that CBS was on fire in this era and Rather did well on the evening news.

Correct. Bill Leonard was President of CBS News at the time, and he made that decision. He wrote about it in his book "In The Storm of the Eye." He knew that when he chose Rather over Mudd that Mudd would leave. He did, and went to NBC.
 
This is ironic. Because of COVID-19 I am able to see other newspapers as they actually appear on my computer at home, and none of the newspapers I see in this way had his obituary. The Charlotte Observer did. Normally, The Charlotte Observer does a poor job of printing obituaries of famous people.
