Rolling Back the Buffalo Rock Radio Clock

You're guessing wrong

In fact, most of us spend considerable money on research just to find out what listeners want us to do.

As we've discussed many times, the price one spends is based on the marketplace. There are no absolutes in a free economy. The view that they overspent is made in hindsight. They spent what the market required, and the lenders agreed was a fair price, given the circumstances AT THE TIME. But of course it's always so much easier to view things 20 years later. Nobody felt they overspent at the time.

As for the so-called "McDonaldization" of radio, that began in the 1930s with network radio. It allowed the entire country to have the shared experience of Fibber McGee & Molly and the Lone Ranger. It continued in the 70s with national consultants telling radio stations what to play and who to hire. Now we have SiriusXM, which allows people to hear the exact same thing in real time from coast to coast. We see 30 million people are paying an average of $10-15 a month for that. So maybe driving from market to market hearing the same music and presentation isn't such a bad thing. If McDonalds is the model, and it's a successful company, than what's the problem? Same with WalMart, Pizza Hut, and every other national chain.

Meanwhile the people of Buffalo have a local owner running a small AM station to a 3 share in the ratings, and all people can do is attack him and find fault.

3.7 Share 12 P Big A. All Access will be retracting the 3.6 they posted. Also, 6.1 50p. Tied with HTT. #7 overall in the market 35plus. Just for some clarification. :) No oldies station in America has those kinds of ratings, I confirmed that with Nielson. And just wait until our third FM pops on the air in Q1. Thanks for your support, I truly appreciate it. Don't mind T-Bolt and the other haters. At least they get their employee discount at McDonalds.

More personal attacks from the small time narcissist.
Even when someone compliments him, BS has to correct the guy. Nit picking over a tenth of a share and making every thread on this board about him. In another thread, he mentioned the New England Patriots. They have 6 Super Bowl wins. I'm sure he will let us know when WECK is #1 in revenue and ratings...

I correct facts that are not accurate. The 3 share he quoted was not accurate. Unlike you, I use facts. A 3 share and a 3.7 share is a big difference when you have a horse race in this market. You call things nitpicking because your a loser, who likes to pontificate, and do nothing. I use correct facts, because i like to win . You don't. TBolt, I could care less who you are, all i know is you are a hater, and wrong just about all of the time.

The small time narcissist assessment is wrong. Correcting someone is not an attack, it is a correction. I will say I am confident. I am not afraid to shake things up in radio. You hide with your stupid made up name behind everything. You are afraid to show your real self, because you would then be exposed.

Wouldn't it be hysterical if TBolt revealed his real name and it turned out that he worked for Buddy?

Yes, my snipping massaged the context a bit... but y'all gotta admit that a guy posting (and largely living an entire adult life) under a pseudonym making a somewhat critical comment about a screen-named forum board poster (which is quite traditional in the internet world/age) is, um, well, a tad bit hilarious.

The would be funny. The person would be giving me is key fob in about 30 sec. I doubt he is someone at WECK. He is too dumb.

All of which goes back to Docket 80-90 in the 80s, which over licensed the spectrum, creating too many stations, driving down individual station shares. This was happening at a time when TV usage was rising, as well as radio TSL was starting to drop. Meanwhile, national syndication was on the rise, with several new companies providing national programming, and offering advertisers access to a national radio audience.
Unlike Rochester and other markets of similar size, Buffalo technically has but one Docket 80-90, this being 92.1 Amherst. The station was late to go on the air and has little bearing on the market because the FCC has classified it (being immediately adjacent to the 88.1 - 91.9 spectrum) as a non-com. It is operated by a religious broadcaster. Similarly, 101.7 is another low power FM affiliated with a religious organization, but 101.7 was "moved-in" to Elma NY from Attica.
