Rome show clock change 8/17

Looks like Premiere is making an interesting change to the stopsets in Jim Rome's program effective August 17th.

Current clock:
Local (6:00)
Program
Live Net :)60) <--- for hour 3, this is a pre-recorded Net spot
Net :)60)
Local (2:00)

Program
Net :)60) <--- for hour 3, this is a local spot
Local (3:00)

Program
Net (2:00)
Local :)60)

Program
Local (2:10)

New clock:
Program <--- Show now starts right at the top of the hour at :00
Live Net :)60) <--- for hour 3, this is still a pre-recorded Net spot
Net :)60)
Local (3:00) <--- increased by :60

Program
Net :)60)
Local (4:00) <--- increased by :60

Program
Net (2:00) <-- for hour 3, there is only one net :60. The other :60 is replaced with program content.
Local (3:00) <--- increased by 2:00

Program
Local (3:10) <--- increased by :60

So in addition to the new segments, local stations are now going to lose some spot time. Hours 1 and 2 go from 14:10 to 13:10, and hour 3 goes from 15:10 to 13:10. Ow.

I flip back and forth between Rush and Rome with Laura Ingraham and NPR... Guess that will give me a little more program time... I hate Advertising..

That's what I thought. Also interesting that the show starts right at the TOH... presuming that affiliates might air updates possibly at :58 past or so. But there are some sports stations that don't rely so much on sports updates during the midday hours.

My local Rome affiliate, WKNR/850, has live updates before his show at :20 past, but goes to their circa-1998 update pattern of :00 and :30 past during Rome, then switches to :20 and :50 past during the afternoon drive. This may finally straighten that all out.

An FSR affiliate out here, http://www.foxsports610.com , actually forgoes the Fox Sports Report and instead runs Fox News Radio updates.

Been a while since I had to wrestle with it, but if I were still at my old sports station, I'd do this:

Record the 11am Fox Sports Radio update, and play it at 11:58a, leading directly into a legal ID and the Rome join.

Repeat for the next two hours. Consistency achieved. Audience placated.

Of course, this assumes you've got some spotload flexibility for such things. Luckily, we're in an Obama-conomy, and nobody has to worry about selling too many commercials.

That doesn't solve the problem if your listners don'w want updates that are almost an hour old. If there's no breaking news, there's no problem, but if something big happens, or even something like scores from a golf tournament are reported, then it will sound really dumb.

In that case, DRR it for playback 90 seconds later. That way you can carry the FSR update and then go straight into the Jim Rome Show.

Several talk stations DDR certain talk shows in order to squeeze an extra minute of ad time per half hour... so that wouldn't be unprecedented.
