Romona Robinson To 19 Action News

Another example of recycling talent. Only in Cleveland. Of course everyone in social media land is all excited as well. As for me? Yawn..... She is trying to catch up to Robin for amount of stations worked at in Cleveland.

What is wrong with "recycling" talent?

If the talent sucks, sure...then I'd agree: bring on the new fresh faces...but, Ramona is a high-quality, veteran large market TV news reader.

Cleveland's an older market, most people who watch news on TV are over 40...or even older...so, what's the problem here?

It's not like this lady is trying to host a morning show on a live/local alternative format music station.

Local TV's main local news problem is the younger viewers they hope to attract to their news programming aren't generally interested in news at this point in their lives. You could have two attractive 18-year-olds anchoring and that doesn't mean under age 35 viewers would flock to watch something they aren't interested in: news.

Some times I don't see much logic/common sense in posts by many other people on these boards.

It's usually just exaggeration of self-importance. Pay it no mind. If he really didn't care, he wouldn't comment in the first place. That is the way of message boards most everyplace. Add nothing to the discussion except a chip on the shoulder. The mark of a boor.

Back to topic, does Denise Dufala get screwed in this?

Also, the link I provided above now leads to nowhere. Hopefully, this one will treat us better:

As I've said before, its what listeners/viewers want, not self important folks that maybe work a little in radio and think they know something..Certainly is a surprising move though.

WOW!

Whoda thunk it?

Romona going back to the newsroom where it all began (albeit it has changed...a little...from when she left ;)).

There's rumblings that someone at Reserve Square ain't happy.

Now the natural assumption would be Sharon Reed, who has made no bones about wanting to be the "star" and is now knocked down a notch on the totem pole.

But as a wise man once said..."not so fast my friend"...It may be someone else.

Could Denise Dufala be feeling squeezed due to being one of 3 "queen bees"?

Or perhaps is Danielle Serino miffed due to her (probably) being knocked out of the anchor rotation?

Never thought she would go to 19. 5 or maybe 8 seemed likely. Nonetheless, good for her. Glad to see she's landed somewhere. It will be a return to her roots since Romona started in Cleveland at 43 and leaving two years after that station merged with 19.

Now, who's joining her at the desk, what times she'll be on and who's still in and now out? Sharon Reed also seems likely to be screwed in the process too. It will be a reunion between Romona and Denise. Wonder what it will be like to see those two together.

If Denise leaves because of the Romona situation, could she return to 8? Anything is possible.

Now it looks like it's indeed Sharon Reed who's the odd woman out.

She had been gone awhile due to maternity leave, but it looks like that Romona is taking over her slots (Reed had been doing the 5, 5:30, and 10p slots).

It would have been migraine inducing to try to sqeeze in slots for Dufala, Robinson, and Reed.

Don't even think of pairing up any combo...2 Queen bees is a disaster waiting to happen (especially in an R & R combo).

As usual I must have some ax to grind because I made a comment about a veteran talent in this market. I wonder how Sharon Reed and Lynna Lai feel about Romona pushing them out of a job. Some of you on here are simply amazing. Get over it not everyone likes seeing the same recycled talent. It is called an opinion. Understand that not everyone shares your same view.

Have another beer, baby. Unless you'd like to kick some dogs first.

Ramona Robinson is a big local TV star. The others just aren't in the same league....not that they aren't good. Not that they aren't nice people.

All right...play nice you two.

With Reed out and Robinson in, could this mean a new approach to 19 Action News?

Sharon Reed was no doubt the poster child for the flash and sizzle approach of WOIO, while Romona is more the classic news anchor.

I can't see Robinson changing her prim and proper style to fit in with the brashness of Reserve Square (Romona introducing Jimmy DiMora puppet theater just doesn't compute).

So could Bill Applegate be telling his troops to turn it down a notch or 2?

By this time next year, WOIO will become a big player in Cleveland with the addition of Romona and both "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" from WEWS. Not sure how the other stations will fare, but don't count out 19. My guess is 19 and WKYC will battle it out for first and second at 11 with 5 once again third and last.

5 will basically be non-existent against the new lineups on 19 and 3. I do wonder if Romona will anchor solo or have a co-anchor, whether in-house or from elsewhere. The shake-up also results in changes on morning, which would now have ALL stations making changes in both AM and PM slots. I would not be surprised if more changes at 19 take place.

Now, I can picture David Wittman with Romona, though Denise might not be thrilled with that pairing. If Romona gets the 6 and 11PM slots, it will be a reverse from when she was at 43 when they merged with 19 with Denise in the bigger slots.

Wouldn't it be funny if Sharon or Lynna...or even Denise...went over to Channel 3. That would be something. I do think all can also do well at 5 and even 8.

Remember that Denise left 8 months after Wilma Smith arrived from 5 to take over the 5 and 11PM newscasts, causing Denise to be reduced to 6PM only. It wasn't until 19 offered her a spot on the 6 and 11PM news that she left to help start a then-new newscast. Of course, 19 soon merged with 43, and a few years after the change, Romona left and landed at 3 after it seemed Denise had been getting the more "important" slots at 19.

Now it has to take a top-rated anchor from elsewhere (Romona) to be called upon to help boost ratings instead of who they brought at the beginning (Denise).

Well, it looks like "19 Action News" wanted to build a "super team" for 6 and 11. It'll be interesting to see if 2 "queen bees" can co-exist.

It also breaks up the nearly 10 year run of David Wittman and Denise Dufala of being the main anchor team (though they'll still be paired at 4 p.m., so they can still technically keep their streak alive).
