Ron Chapman passed 4/26/21

Anyone that has been around Dallas Radio will know the name Ron Chapman and likely KVIL's decades at the top. My boss worked for Ron and summed it up this way: Legendary broadcaster RON CHAPMAN has passed away this morning in Dallas. Ron was my mentor, former boss and very good friend. We had spoken only 2 weeks ago. The radio industry lost one of the greatest this morning.

RIP to one of the GOATs of DFW Radio, i'm one of the younger generations that got to experience Chapman, as well as Terry Dorsey, Russ Martin, Bo & Jim, Kidd Kraddick and Hal Jay. sadly all but Bo & Jim and Hal are gone now, as they have past away, Kidd Kraddick died in 2013 from heart failure, Terry Dorsey died in 2015 months after his retirement from KSCS from natural causes (most likely had health issues he kept quiet about which may had resulted in his retirement), and Russ died earlier this year at 60 on February 27 from unknown causes, most likely related to his health (both physical and mental) struggles since his December 2015 home invasion.

Just got off the phone with a an old radio friend. He told me that Ron demanded - and got - the entire third floor at KVIL at the height of his fame. Now *that's* clout!

Met/knew Ron when I worked in Dallas...worked with Kidd and Russ when I was CE of CC Dallas...and of course know Bo and Jim as well.
Ron was a very super DJ...he cared about his listeners and always brought them entertainment every day. When Russ beat him for morning ratings for the first time, Ron called KEGL live and congratulated Russ on air on both stations..now that was class!!
I was shocked at Russ' passing...evidently his internal demons got to him....Ron got to 85 but had suffered a major stroke some years ago....so his death didn't surprise as Russ' did but its sad to see the best of my radio carrer pass on..
