I grew up on Dallas radio and have listened to Ron for years and years. I hate to admit,,,,,I got a little tearied eyed when he played his last song... Made me think of when I was around 7 years old and riding around in my sisters mustang fastback listening to the "mighty 1190"!

"Turn, Turn, Turn" by The Byrds... a perfect ending for him. I got to Dallas too late on Friday to hear the good bye show, but I did get to see all the stories on 4, 5, 8, and 11. I thought the coverage was pretty good.

I must admit, it wasn't as emotional for me, as when he left KVIL. That day was tough. I felt since Chapman basically created KVIL, why not segue it to Oldies and flip KLUV to AC (hell, the call letters fit better for an AC station anyway)?

Either way, Ron will be sorely missed. <P ID="signature">______________

Interesting thought. One wonders if the corporate types possibly have entertained the possibility. Or would it have to be a product of their own "thinking"? Now that you've mentioned it the idea will lie dormant in the suits' collective brain (they only have one among them and they pass it around), then they'll remember it in two months and think it was their doing. And they won't be able to do it fast enough. Good work. Your idea may be the best one the front office ever had.

If you recall back in the late 70's early 80'sapproximately/ KLUV's call letters were switched from KNUS to KLVU( I believe). The format was AC,and they called themselves KLOVE.The calls and the format had a very short lifespan.

A station elsewhere had the KLUV call letters and KLVU's parent company approached the station and offered to foot the bill and handle all the paperwork to give over KLUV to Dallas. IIRC the other station readily agreed (in return for some amount of monetary inducement, no doubt) and Dallas soon had a true KLUV.

KNUS 99FM in Dallas switched to KLVU in 1981, and was using KLOVE as their signature-- then in mid 82 or early 83 they were awarded KLUV as their calls and remained ever since... Dave Van Dyke was the PD at the time I believe-- and one of the sales guys that was running around in those days was a character-- i can't recall his names but he did one hellva an impersonation of Peter Falk as Columbo! (I wish I could tell you his name)...

Brinkman didn't come to KLUV until late 88 or 89-- when Van Dyke left-- but they've been oldies since the mid 80's when KAAM 1310 went to Music of Your Life format-- (that was around 84ish-- Russ Martin was still there with Stubie Doaks)...

just a thought

Ron Was an original, and I do not think that we will ever see another talent like him in our life-time.
