Ron/Fez Blow Up First Ratings Trend

According to Bennington, they were #2 in men 18-49 in the latest ratings. That's pretty damn impressive for their first ratings on FREE-FM , a station that otherwise seems to be struggling. That's competing with the Sports Talk shows, Mark Levin, Savage. Free FM may be not be trending upwards but the Ron and Fez show certainly is. They are the type of show that can walk the line successfully between edgy and safe in this post Imus world, unlike some other shows that have to seriously(sadly) compromise what they do. Hopefully Mainelli will find or nurture other shows that can make this station successful.

No, I am not one of those R&F "haters" - however it should be noted that R&F appeal to a different listener demo than the die-hard sports listener, and especially the poli-talk listener. What's more, there's been a bunch of times (including tonight!) that R&F's show had to be truncated to make way for sports overflow programming from The FAN.

Seeing this news, the next logical step would be to give R&F the afternoon slot. Granted, they've done afternoon drive in New York before (albeit briefly, post-O&A on WNEW). They shouldn't really pose a threat to Mike & the Mad Dog, like an O&A would, and for CBS, that's actually a great thing.

I disagree, Id say they can be "edgey" but there's a difference between Edgey and Sexual/scattalogical etc. That's the common perception of edgey material, that it's automatically sexual in nature etdc. Not always.

Good for Ron and FEz, honestly? I think that book is a fluke, interesting show but not THAT interesting. WE shall see what the spring and following fall bring.

Meantime, congratulation "Buddies"

I agree, let's see how they do in multiple books. At the same time I think they are an example of how bad radio has gotten in NY if they've taken the share. I know for me it's the equivalent of listening to two guys on a subway at 2am after they've been out for a night of drinking and corralling in a 'downtown' bar.

"funny without being edgey". Wow. Now do they strictly cater to NYC or could their show be effective back in Tampa where they used to be...considering the CBS sports station here airs Yankee games in the Devil Rays market...

I'm a big Ron & Fez supporter, but I do think that first book might be flukey. The night numbers always are. They didn't have any mets or Yankees games to go up against yet. I do think they are the BEST show on that sinking ship of a station. Wasting them in nights is a terrible idea. I know they have the Chick signed to a multi year, no cut contract. At the very minimum, they should go there. I really believe they should be put in Mid days after O&A. Actually...I think O&A Should go into Afternoons where they belong and use Ron & Fez as a great lead in. I know that leaves mornings open, but what the hell. Those two numb nuts aren't pulling any numbers anyway.

This is the second time you've run your mouth passive aggressively bashing O&A.

R&F and O&A won't compete against each other. If R&F have a similar deal to O&A, it means the following:

1) They own the show; Eatman owns the syndication rights.
2) CBS syndicates the show from Eatman
3) The two shows won't compete against each other in the same market. Which means that R&F live won't be up against O&A live, especially since they share a MAJOR portion of a crossover market.

If you get O&A in the afternoons, you'll get R&F following them at night.

Read it again starscream...I never siad they would compete against eachother. All I said was that I thought Ron & Fez could be a good lead in for O & A. But let's be honest, O&A were brought in to get big numbers for cbs in AM drive and that is not happening. How long do you think Dan Mason is going to sit around and do nothing with that station?

One question, Mr. Armchair PD... who are you going to replace them with. What talent is available and ready for AM drive in NYC?
