A friend of his wrote me to say, "He was on the air with KNUS I think back in the late 70's. Ron passed away on Thurs., Jan 10, 2013 after a long illness, in Lewisville, Texas. Ron donated his body to science and when we receive the ashes they will be buried in Springhill, Louisiana where Ron was born. I never met any of his buddies from the good ol' days so I thought maybe you could let them know. His obit was in Sunday's (Jan 13th) paper."

Sorry to hear that. I met Ron when I first came to Dallas in 1979 at KBOX. He did 3-7 and I followed him doing 7-mid. Years later at USA Radio Network he joined our staff as a part time news anchor. That was in 2004 and 2005. Nice guy with a great set of pipes.

Is the the same Ron Gray who was at WFAA/570 from '71-'74, and later went into sales at 92K? Had came from KNOE in Monroe and Vietnam vet?

Hey Unclepudd, don't know if you were aware of this.... Ron served in the Marine Corps, just as you and I did. He never talked about 'Nam.

No. Ron was the sales manager at KNUS/99 from '72 to at least '78.

This IS the Ron Gray who was at WFAA after the sale of 820 and before '74 (sometime within those dates). He came from KNOE (sister station of WNOE/New Orleans) and worked for Louis Noe prior to FAA. I remember clearly because he kept slipping and saying KNOE on the air here in Dallas.

Right Jason, he talked very little of Nam and no one blamed him for it. The war was still going strong and he had no desire to stroll down memory lane. He was buddies with Bruce Hughes and once commented that running with Bruce was more hazardous than Nam.

Ron was a serious guy and had a great sense of humor and a true friend. At some time during the '70's he was at KRLD-FM (KAFM) in sales.

Heard somewhere he passed but haven't been able to confirm... Shannon will probably know if anyone does... Never had the pleasure to meet Mike but I like his love for radio... Heard he was at Sieg's funeral last week but I missed him in the crowd and rain..

Mike's www.dfwretroplex.com/ (former KNUS99.com site) Death Roll lists Bruce as being murdered at age 62 back in 2001.

Thanx jd. I guess that answers the question.. Anyone know the details of Bruce's death?

I find reading Mike's site informative but the obits depressing. I often regret having not remained closer to the many names I know, having worked with them.
