Ron Howard question....

Ron Howard did a guest shot on a show about a TV station. He was the guest on an afternoon children show where the older host had no idea Howard had a career after Andy Griffith. The host considered his life after Andy Griffith trivial as in "Oh, that's nice."

The segment was hilarious and I can't remember the program. Based on an IMDB search this might be it, Channel 99 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1165261/. Anyone else remember?

I don't recall that, but I do remember that when Ron Howard hosted SNL in the early 80s, a 'star-struck' Eddie Murphy kept referring to him as "Little Opie Cunningham."

Whether you think of Ron(ny) Howard as Opie or Richie probably depends on how old you are. I'm 47, so to me, he will always be Richie Cunningham.

How DARE you! Being 47 means you are a mere child. I'm 58, and grew up in the 60s. Ron was Opie Taylor. Anything after that was irrelevant, not to mention sacrilege. ;D

If you grew up in the '60s, wasn't he Ronny Howard to you, and not "Ron"? ;D

I remember that episode. Ron Howard had just directed "Night Shift" and when Eddie Murphy found out what the movies was about and that guys running the Pimping Service out of the city morgue were white, he stated to Ron Howard, "I don't know whether to be happy or insulted that they (Henry Winkler & Michael Keaton) weren't black".

Also from that episode was a modern day version of Mayberry. http://snltranscripts.jt.org/82/82copie.phtml

Even Andy Griffith made a cameo as the spirit of Sheriff Taylor. His best line, "Aw, a gun never solved anything. I never carried one. You wanna get people over to your side, [winks] do what I did! Talk to 'em, reason with 'em. And if that doesn't work, ball up your fists and hit 'em upside the head! [grins] How do you think I kept Aunt Bea in line?"

I remember "Channel 99", which was one of those comedy pilots that made it to air, but never became a series. I also recall that program also featuring a movie host who seemed to have a fixation on "It's a Wonderful Life".

Also, while the IMDB mentioned that Marilu Henner was the star of Channel 99 as the manager, I sworn that Kate Jackson starred in that series.
