Ron Hunter Dies

N.O. radio & TV veteran Ron Hunter was found dead Tuesday in his home in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson, Nevada, apparently from natural causes. He was 70.
 
Thank you Bob.It was Ron and Bob Mitchell that got me started in radio at WIKC(Bogalusa)when i was a senior in high school.Ron was a perfectionist and had a huge ego, like alot of radio and tv personalities,but let's face it,that's what drive most of us in this crazy profession.His family owned the station and his dad was a fine fellow.Alot of broadcasters passed thru WIKC, Bob Robin,Skip Wilkerson, and others.If a jock got fired in new orleans(it's still radio,you know ha), we usually had a spot for them until they found a new gig.Ron could adlib like no other i've seen in broadcasting.CBS discovered Ron while doing race issue coverage back in Bogalusa's turbulent times,they were very impressed and the rest is history.Major market gigs Chicago,Buffalo,Miami and New Orleans.Just a huge talent.
I was very hurt when i learned of Ron's ordeal with his wife dying.Did he do it,perhaps,but never was charged.His maker will now judge him. If you knew the real Ron Hunter you would like him,temper,ego and all.May he rest in peace.

Yeah, he was a character, Ray. I knew him back when he was "Bill Novak" on WTIX from 7-10 pm around '57-'58 and went to a few of his record hops at Mater Dolorosa at the tender age of 11.

Last time I saw him was in about 1995, in the Time Saver on West Esplanade and Causeway, across from the (then) KOOL-95 studios. He was wearing a black t-shirt with...his own name and picture emblazoned on the front!! :-D

i remember those days as Bill Novak on TIX.Yep, he was stuck on himself and that t-shirt proved it, had to be a funny site for you,i bet you laughed..take care.rf
 
That would not surprise me.Ron used a character voice named Sidney Green(dirty ole man)that was very funny.everyone thought there was a real sidney green.he could do that voice like a ventriloquist would...i use to work with a ventriloquist,but i had to quit,Got too big for his lap.(hee hee)
 
Seems Ron had a younger Siegelin brother who was also in radio. Can't remember what his real name and his radio name were though, or if I worked with him at WLSU in the mid-60's or in the major league in later years.
 
That was Scott Siegelin,who was murdered in a robbery in Vegas.Now Scott loved the Uniques and use to play them ALOT on WIKC.I was PD and the owner called me in his office and chewed my rear end"saying I am tired of hearing those you know what Uniques.Had to get Scott to back off,at least until his dad left town(ha).Ron had a sister,Sue who was raped in her french quarter apartment years ago.Never was the same since and i don't know if she is still alive or not.She was not mentioned in the obit.This family has seen more tragedy than most of us experience.Ron was a production whiz,did lots of agency stuff years ago like H.I.S. jeans and others.passed on a chance to work at KLIF Dallas when it was the top dog in the Big D.
 
I remember Ron Hunter from WPLG Ch 10 in Miami. He was something! I also heard about the downward spiral his career and life took. Someone should do a serious book or movie on his life.
