Ron Jones ----- WMC 790 Days ?????

Ron Jones ----- WMC 790 Days ?????

Does anyone know where my old friend "Ron Jones " is today ( 2008 ) ? We were together during the mid 80's
at WMC 790 with Jim Tabor, Buddy Sanders, Dave Michaels, Les Tivers, Jim McCloud etc...... trying to locate
his where-abouts !

Re: Ron Jones ----- WMC 790 Days ?????

Ron Jones left Memphis and radio years ago. I was told he landed in Las Vegas where he was working as a casino dealer. That was probably sometime during the late 90's. Ron was my very first jock hire as a PD in 1970, moving him from Atlanta to Cleveland, OH. Ironically he ended up in Memphis as did I. That's the last I heard about him.

It's always encouraging to know one has achieved 'etc.' status... ;D

Re: Ron Jones ----- WMC 790 Days ?????

I thought I saw on another board that he had just left a station in Chicago.

He had one of the best voices I've heard.

He also wrote me a letter when I was part-time at WMC that set me straight on the importance of formatics and delivering the expected audience product. I still remember it.

Re: Ron Jones ----- WMC 790 Days ?????

Ron Jones....The man crazy enough to hire me as a board op with NO EXPERIENCE!

And back in 1987, you didn't do that! Jobs were hard to come by. You had to have experience to get a job. Even a board op job.

But, Ron took a chance on me. I was dreadful. But, I learned. And got better.

I will be forever grateful to the man who gave me my first shot! Glad to know he didn't waste that beautiful voice.

Re: Ron Jones ----- WMC 790 Days ?????

I was an occasional visitor to the poker parlor that Ron ran on Sunday afternoons at his kitchen table. It was just a friendly game that would include the likes of Bob McLain and a certain former traffic reporter turned police chief who shall remain nameless.......and countrymomma, you are right about his voice......what a set of pipes he had.

One Correction on the Poker Sundays at Rons' Apartment
There was No Country Momma - in fact - No Females at the card table
Yes it was a friendly game ..... we did play for Money however
Also: it was NOT at a kitchen table
It was in the living room across from his Big Screen TV --- with football on !
And yes------Lt. mark Hopper was there playing ( no big deal ) that was 20 some years ago !!!!!
