Ron Olsen and Live Spot

Did anyone watch Action News 5 this morning? The word going around is Ron messed up in the middle of a "live" Blockbuster spot, slammed down his mic, and said "this is just to " " much. Then, they did a quick cut to the announcers. The lady announcer said okay, let's go to Ron (Ron Childress) with weather. If this is true, how do you think it will look towards Entercom.

Channel 5 ran the first take of a taped spot that was incorrect. Ron lost his train of thought and just stopped after muttering something. It was not live, and he did not "slam the mic" down. They have a regular spot on Channel 5 each morning. Channel 5 screwed up by playing the wrong cut.

Entercom could probably care less...

probably couldn't care less...

And this makes more sense...the WMC folks are pretty much clueless, especially when they still edit tape-to-tape and pay their editors minimum wage.

Two points:

1. This illustrates why one should ALWAYS consider any mic hot. Never, ever cuss with a microphone anywhere near you. No good can ever come of it.

2. A GM of a major Memphis station opined thto me at this may actually have been a stunt. Dunno about that, but it was offered.

Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Denis Leary, Dave Chappelle, and Bill Hicks all disagree with #1.

Cuss...ha.

You know, it's interesting.

I am not offended by raw language. Words are just that -- words -- and they are almost always protected by the 1st Amendment (though, not always). That being said, it cannot escape notice that the great comics DO NOT have to rely on workin' blue. Dropping the F-bomb, for many comics, is simply a crutch -- if you can't be funny, just cuss, and no one will notice.

Still, "The Aristocrats" is hillarious. I'll gladly make that concession.

Agree on point no. 1. Almost all of us I am sure have a story over being burnt by a mic being hot we thought was cold.

As for no. 2, I am curious if that GM was from radio or TV?

None of the above comics relies on the F-Bomb. Edit them down and they're still funny. The cursing just makes them funnier.

I get the picture though....

Bill Cosby and Brian Regan are brilliant....and clean.
