Ron Owenby

Learned today that Ron Owenby, former GM at WAGI Gaffney, died on New Year's day at age 68. Ron was a fixture in Gaffney and served many years on the South Carolina Broadcasters Association board. He retired when the Gaffney stations were LMAed to Davidson. A good guy who worked at the stations since 1965.

Yep...I ran across this story earlier today. Very sad that he enjoyed such a short period of retirement time after WAGI -- prayers and God's blessings on the Owenby family and all of Cherokee County as they mourn his passing.

it is interesting how we remember people. i know the name ron owenby, but can't say i know him. i know wagi and know that they are the local station for that area in cherokee county. working in radio has sacrifices. i'm sure ron doesn't have any remotes, or my dog got sick can you work, or other duties that only people in radio could explain. i would hope that he is laughing it up with other radio people that have passed on and raising a glass of wine or water.

I knew some time ago that Ron's health was very poor, and the outcome was likely not good. I didn't realized he had lived this long.

Yes, he didn't get to enjoy retirement!
