For those of you trashing Ron Parker let me remind you of the facts:

Ron/Cammy #1 Afternoons

Ron/Cammy Top 5 25-54 Morning Drive

Ron/Cammy voted MSN.COM best Radio Show in the Bay Area.

Great Ratings Tookiebird, but it doesnt change the fact, that KFRC had alot of other talent to choose from!! Afternoon drive is John Mack Flanagan and Bobby Ocean!! I dont have the ratings like you provided, but I found those two annoying and boring Parker does not hold a "Candle" to JMF , Bobby Ocean ,Or "Lee Baby Sims" These guys dont need a sidekick. They go Solo and thats that!! What do you expect KFRC buys out KYA 93.3 in April 94 and that leaves one Oldies station what a monopoly!! You want Oldies its KFRC or nothin!! How they they lasted as long as they did I ll never know!! I would much rather listen to "Candi Chamberlin" than Cammy!! The bottom line is its time to Quit looking over the Legends and quit putting in these Duos !! I dont know Oceans ratings, but Im sure he "OUTDID" Ron Parker when he was a KFRC 2001 - 2003! Then Bobby was off to XM!! I dont think these two could or would ever make it @ XM !! So to sum it up, Tookiebird, If and when this Bay Area ever gets another Oldies format its my opinion they do not re hire these Duos!! John Mack Flanagan sounds alot better in my 1970 Olds Cutlass than R and C ,Have a Great Thanksgiving!! Kenny in Concord

Ron Parker has been gone for a long time now -left his partnership with Cammy Blackstone voluntarily to return to Texas, if I remember correctly. Back when the R&K show was on afternoons (mid 90s), they had a lot of stiff competition from higher rated stations, and popular DJs like Ric Chase on KMEL. I find it hard to believe they were number 1.

But if true, it just proves that it's hard to underestimate the taste of the listening audience. Obviously, Cammy brought in decent ratings for KFRC, or she wouldn't have lasted more than a decade. That doesn't mean the show was any good, or that she was talented. In my opinion, all 3 of her partners - Ron, JD, and Dean Goss were fine - SHE was the problem. All 3 of those guys are good jocks on their own.

XM RADIO Say's: "How they lasted i'll never know". You're right XM, you don't know and as for XM's talent, some good some bad.

Besides being talented, Ron's a good guy, and a good oldies programmer. He had moved to middays from mornings at the oldies station in Houston, and was eliminated for a part time voice tracker, and someone from a sister station programming the music. Perhaps he'll resurface here in the Bay Area at some point. He was saddled with Cammie, it was not his choice. I can't imagine how JMF or Bobby would sound with her in the mix. Lee Baby would just crank up the volume until her ears bled, and she left...he burned out more midrange tweeters and headphones than anyone I've ever been around!

Agreed. Ron and Dean were fine, and I always thought JD in particular was a funny and entertaining jock on his own. But none of them had any "chemistry" with Cammy, and I assume that's at least one reason that both JD and Ron quit. In my opinion, the co-host thing usually doesn't work. In the 70s in LA, Top 40 KRLA tried a lot of programming experiments to catch up with ratings leader KHJ. The worst experiment was when they put all of their jocks in teams of two - all day and all night - which must have been expensive. In fact, I just thought of it because Lee Baby Simms was on one of those 2 man teams. It REALLY didn't work...all of the "comedy" was forced and unfunny, and this included talented veteran DJs like Simms, Reb Foster, and Shadoe Stevens, if I remember correctly.

Laffer great comments, as far as XM , Phlash Phelps would Blast Ron Parker right out of Ratings Game!! From the time Parker arrived ( 9 of 93) I never cared about his way of radio ! Try and compare him to John Mack Flanagan, John has him beat! I hope he stays in Texas , maybe he could work on George Bushs ranch, Have a great Thanksgiving kenny in Concord
