Ron St. pierre was good today

I haven't tuned in a while, but I decided to put on the webcam and watch the show. At first I thought it was Charlie Hall filling in. Ron's looking younger and better than ever. He's even much more relaxed and was using some cool lingo. It's as if he took a magic pill that erased 20 years off his life. Buddy had the day off. But I have to admit that I was just enjoying Ron solo. He talked about the Projo going up to a $1 aday and $3 on Sundays! (which I think is ridiculous.) I just canceled my subscription last week.

Then Ron went on to say that because of tough times he just dropped HBO and Cinemax from his cable service. It's an extra $35 that he feels that he doesn't need to spend. He has a Netflix account anyway. I say..he's a SMART MAN. I related to exactly what he was saying. As a matter of fact I took it a step further and cancled my entire cable account three weeks ago. The price just kept increasing and the product was just getting worse. I have an HDTV and a good antenna that pulls in 29 digital stations from Providence and Boston. Stations that arn't even carried by COX Cable. So far I am happy with my decision. I don't feel like I'm missing anything. I get all the affiliates from two different markets and that is all I basically watched anyway.

So in any event.... I enjoyed Ron today. He's doing a great job. It was a very nice surprise.

Yes, Ron is always good. Too bad he's in a position of being a sidekick. They should rename the program "The Ron StPiere show with
guest, the Mayor."

Isn't it sad that the economy has even effected the 6-figure income folk? He's had to cancel his premium cable package to save $35/mo. Can a Lexus trade-in be far behind?? What do you suppose Buddy's big concession will be, eating out at fast food places instead of 5-star restaurants.

Nice to see they have the pulse of the common guy.

I'm wondering how long do you keep calling a guy the Mayor when he hasn't been Mayor in 15 years?

Try 6... Glad we're all paying attention... Allows our opinions taken that much more seriously... ::)

6 or 15. Whatever. I was just making a point. The guy isn't mayor anymore. Does it makes sense to keep calling the guy Mayor as if he still holds office? Seems silly to me. Don't get me wrong. I love the guy. I think he did incredible things for Providence. But the facts are the facts. HE'S NOT MAYOR ANYMORE!

It's a mark of respect.. Just as people still refer to Jimmy Carter, Georges Bush and Bill Clinton as President!

I've always heard Presidents of the past referrred to as Former President Carter or Former President Bush. Tom Brokaw used to make those same references frequently. How about "Former Supreme Court Justice". I've heard that as well. Somehow WPRO has forgot to use the word Former. I am sure that it's because it sounds more appealing to just say Mayor as if he is still currently in office. But the reality is that he is no more of a current mayor than I am a current Mayor. Oh well.... just an observation.

I cannot believe this is even being debated. Geoff is absolutely correct. Since George Washington was still referred to as "Mr. President" during the Adams Administration, former Presidents, Senators, Cabinet Secretaries, governors, mayors, judges, and others have retained their titles for life.

I guess that I'm looking at it this way. Joe Schmo from Idaho is driving through Providence. He flips on the Radio and hears that the Mayor has his own show. It's a little bit misleading isn't it? Joe Schmo doesn't realize that this isn't TODAY'S MAYOR. It's the Mayor from 6 years ago. However Joe Schmo wouldn't know that because everyone keeps calling him Mayor as if he is still in office TODAY.

That is my whole point. Take it for what it's worth.

I guess none of you ever worked for him. He's on a par with Keri R. ::)

No I never worked for him. But in the few instances that he and I have communicated back and forth, Ron has always been respectful towards me. I can't say the same for the rude chick.

I did work for and with him and he is a great guy. The stories I've heard about the individual, that is way off base....
