Who? Bring back Cahill!!

Heard from a good sorce that Ronn will start Monday May 3rd @ 6am. Music till 6pm and back to regular programing, and if it goes well it could be extended. Hope they can fire up the transmitter to full power (5kw).
Bust of luck Ronn!!

Ronn is a great guy and an example for present and future broadcasters everywhere. I'll be listening

Couldn't believe it when he was let go at WAXI. I was told by someone on the sales staff that when Ronn left so did a lot of advertisers. Then when he was at Midwest in sales, he would have been perfect for a local talk show but again the ones calling the shots refused to give the man a chance. I'll be listening to if they can get the transmitter up to 5kw. not sure, heard that the tower site has many issues?

Maybe the reason they let him go was that he had no ratings? From what I know when WAXI went oldies the worst show in the book was his. His "listeners" were all probably too old to be able to get out of bed and change the channel.
Midwest probably doesn't want to spend the money to put in all of the equipment needed to do a local talk show. (delay, interview studio, etc)
If they take the 1480 site up to 5kw the towers will probably fall over. That site needs lots of work. Why do you think Emmis gave it away? ::)

Ronn's shows were always entertaining but he did appeal to an older demo. I used to listen to him on WBOW when I lived in TH 20 years ago and loved how he'd dig out some real rarities, spin them, and tell stories about them. But in this age of Weather and Traffic on the 1s and short bursts of info, his show would stand out because it demands deeper attention.

I ended up working at WBOW part-time as Ronn was in is waning days there. I remember once bumping into him at one of the record shows they used to hold at Hulman Center, and he lamented that he and I were the only two disk jockeys there that day.

Isn't 1480 now classified as a Non-Comm?

A commercial station can be owned by a Non Com. If it is reclassified as Non Com there is no slippery slope as it can always change back. No reserved band in the AM spectrum.

I was driving east on my way to Greencastle and lost 1480 just crossing into clay co. from vigo. No way they are at full power (5kw), always heard that they had several problems at the tower site and this confirms that.

Made the same trip today and AM 1480 was coming in loud and clear, so they must be at max power 5kw. Use to be able to hear WTHI AM 1480 almost to Evansville in the old days. Anyone south of Sullivan picking it up?

Hello. Jim DeBaun here. I was with WVTS FM from 1979 to 1984. For a while we were known as "The Hot 101FM. I was music director there, I believe in 1983-84. The first year I was there we kicked ass in the ratings, knocking WPFR down a few notches. The only station that beat us was WTHI. Then the consultant came in as did automation and the rest is history. I went with Bob Rouse to Rockville and became the Program Director at WAXI in Rockville. Would like to know whatever happened to some of the old radio folks. Micheal T. Burns....Steve Edwards....Scott Ferguson...Jim Wright....Harold Wesley...Scott Foreman....Taylor Brown....Keith Gaddis....A good group of guys and some of the best years of my life. The golden age of Terre Haute Radio!!!

Lets see, Keith Gaddis is still in town and is a minister at Maryland Community Church I believe, Scott Foreman... well, he wound up in Indy for a while, I think he maybe went into the Army or was thinking about it... and then he just disappeared from the face of the earth. Harold Wesley passed away from cancer here a few years ago but his son Bruce is an engineer at TV2 and basically has his dads old job down there. VTS was a good station back then and really is a shadow of its former self. WAXI is all automated Dial-Global and is run out of Terre Haute. The only thing left in Rockville is the transmitter in the old building. Bob and Sharon Rouse.. last I heard Bob was a preacher and they were in Florida.

Yes, I do have some old airchecks from my days at WVTS. Do you have some old jingles that you could e-mail? All my stuff is still on tape. I need to transfer it over to Digital. Jim D.
