Rooster Flips?

There is speculation Rooster will flip now that Gator Country is in town.
But why would they? We know mburg wants Dixie, but besides that Gator has yet to show ratings while Rooster maintains a 3.0 and is supported by advertisers. The radio game is all about money and nothing else!!!

The purpose for Rooster is to flank and protect WQIK the real cash cow for CC.

Maybe Renda should use 94.1 to flank and protect WEJZ like CC has done with Rooster.

Any thoughts from the group?

You're right, Gator has yet to show ratings and maybe won't! Unless they show all of us (via great programming and marketing) that they are a viable threat I wouldn't expect CC to react too much to their existance. Rooster has a somewhat loyal following and certainly WQIK is a big-time player! It won't be easy for Gator.

They may get some local ad dollars from clients that can't afford WQIK or Rooster but the national business won't be there until they show some results.

Rooster won't be the station that will change formats. Gator will turn into flank steak just prior to getting there tail wet. Once again Renda will realize there playing with the big guns and the assualt rifles will blast them into the past with there other diaster-100.7 What were they thinking?

Right on, brother! I can't believe they just sit there and do next to nothing in such a competitive radio world. It's baffeling.

Renda might have screwed up WKQL but they know what they are doing with Gator. In Ft. Myers Renda put a country station on the air and it knocked one CC off the air and the other is in the toilet. With all the money that CC has invested in WQIK and nothing in WROO, I would imagine they will flip WROO and circle the wagons around WQIK.

Renda flips

this may have made more sense: Renda put oldies on 99.9 where suburban audiences can actually use the station, put gospel on 100.7 -- and altogether avoid taking on CC with a 3rd country station that won't beat the existing stations who are willing to spend money to defend their positions.

Look at what WPZE in Atlanta is doing- OK signal and knocking them dead in adult demos (top 5, I hear). Same in Memphis, Birmingham, Montgomery. Very niche format but for those dying to hear it, they'll work hard to use that station.

I want some of what you are smoking

not funny if u wanna compete

go check out the ratings of those stations- Renda would IN A MINUTE trade Kool's
numbers with WPZE in Atlanta or WENN Birmingham. AND, they wouldn't have to spend squat marketing Gospel compared to what it's gonna take to compete with either of CC's country stations.

(btw- it is some gooooooooooooooood stuff)

This market is not urabn enough for a gospel station and there is NO revenue in that foramt. If Urbans were so good WSOL and WJBT would be in the top 5 in revenue. Tthey are not!

Marketing will start for WKQL in late July and for WGNE around the same time. WKQL came out strong but it is all ready losing listeners. THe sweepers are horrible. THe playlist is only around 300 songs and the jocks are awful. They can't decide what format they are.

Re: not funny if u wanna compete

Over 20% African-American (Birmingham is mid 20%). "Urban" is not Gospel, so it doesn't matter if your Urban stations do that well- it is a totally different animal and completely different format.

Since the TSL on these stations is incredible, they don't need a ton of cume. It would be PERFECT with that lousy signal(and it's got to beat the 2 share Kool has).

How do you know when marketing will start for KOOL? And where did you ever get the idea that they "came out strong"? Yes, the sweepers are small-time but you're dead wrong about the playlist. There's a LOT of untested crap on that station. Once in a while, two good songs may actually play back-to-back! This station is holding its own for being the worst oldies station in America, and I'm not joking.

Actually all the music has been tested, at least twice!
