Rooster Personalities

It's been awhile since RDU switched from Classic Rock to Country. The only DJ
they have is Trey Cooler and John Boy and Billy. They need to add some more personalities. Maybe then they will garner more ratings share in the market. I also think if they are going to be a player in this Market they need to be more agressive in beating WQDR at playing new music first. I only think that will happen if WCMC changes to classic country and the rooster plays nothing but NEW COUNTRY.

Yea CC takes their sweet time filling out the on air roster usually. Even if they get more people on, I doubt any more will be local. I would put money on Nights and Middays being tracked.

I would put my money on the only thing being tracked on WRDU being nights and weekends.

;D

Are jocks going to make that big of a difference honestly? I mean QDR has such an advantage in mornings seeing as JB&B never succeed in the Triangle. Mad Daog doesn't do too bad in middays for QDR. I think he is #1 or 2 overall. Same with Lisa in the afternoon. I just can't forsee enough of a reason for listeners to switch.

You better watch that Trey Cooler guy. He's a damn good programmer.

lol, On_Radio, just wondering, do you have music notes tattoed on your wrist??? ;D

I dunno, I guess only the metro listenership matters to the books but RDU's signal is crap going towards Sanford. And it sux that Trey got stuck with JB&B right off the bat, being that they never pull decent numbers. that's kinda setting them up for failure.

i'm not crazy about any of QDR's jocks, but they do well. it'll be an up hill battle, that's for sure.

I wish Trey & Co. the best of luck!

Trey Cooler fans need to remember that Trey is no more calling shots at RDU than Harlowe is for the cluster. If they were, JBB would not be on the air and all stations would be staffed out by now. There are some humongous egos lurking behind the scenes that won't let the CC Raleigh people do their jobs. It has been a problem there for years and only got worse when Charlotte took over the market. Trey needs to quietly seek another opportunity before RVPs sink his career. Other CC Raleigh execs should note as well. It will not get any better.

Ditto for those in GSO

Well, according to the email newsletter I got from WRDU today:

"...we've got a new voice hitting the airwaves tonight. Help us welcome Heidi Decker to The Rooster 106.1! She'll be on the air weeknights from 7pm until midnight."

"Heidi Decker". Doesn't everything about that name sound live & local?

I really miss Trey on WTQR. He was always so nice when I talked to him on the phone. He did a good job as PD. Now I have two stations to choose from and don't like either one. I love Michele Michaels and Gunner Jackson on The Wolf, but absolutely despise their playlist. TQR's playlist is a little better, but I don't care for their on air personalities. Resolution.....bring cd's to work.

no.. Nothing tattoed on my wrist.

;D

Just a guy for a jones for Pro Tools!

Clearchannel is going to screw up the rooster just like they did 'RDU. Im not a big fan of country but for everyone who listens to 106.1 dont expect it to last awhile. Because thats how CC- Raleigh is right now. And the river is doing a crap job to keep 'RDU's legacy alive. Tune to 96rock for classics thats going to be the next 'RDU 5-10 years from now.

She's based in Sarasota (WCTQ). She and Trey worked together at WEZL in Charleston, where he programmed and she was just starting out VTing other stations in the cluster.

JB&B, while on WTRG, were always top 3 M25-54 and M45-54. Often #1 M45-54. That's one of the main reasons WTRG went downhill. No women listening. They weren't there in AM drive, and it was tough to get them back after 10am. Even with no women WTRG, it's last 18 months on the air, got better ratings than WRDU AND WRSN (Sunny). Made more money than Sunny too.

Oldies is dead? Bullsh*t.

IE: Trey gave you free stuff, the others don't

****-A-Doodle-Twooooooooooooooooo

I think it's just too cool when 96 Rock plays Gary Lewis and Playboys and Smokey Robinson and a Bob Dylan song only Bob Dylan knows on Sunday night--everything that rocks...yeah that's the ticket. Genius programming, cutting edge, deeper than deep and all over the road. RDU is gone and they still can't pull a number. Fascinating.

I'm not a Country Afficianado... and am drinking wine... but it seems like "classic country" wouldn't be in direct competition with the more modern, Hot AC-ish country stations.

But let's say they are. What are we up to-- 7 Country's is it now?

The "classic" rule of similarly-programmed rivals is the stationality (branding thru imaging prod, talent, promotions, and everything else that makes u different).

I hear ol' Johnboy & Billy haven't faired very well in the past here.

If that's the case, they are the weakest link on that station and should NOT be the focus of promotional attention. Look, if I want two cartoony hillbillies playing the home version of Blue Collar Comedy Tour, I'll catch the Red Green Show.

If you're all about the music, that's cool. If you're all about some annoying duet that has already been tuned out on other signals in the market... might wanna re-think the campaign strategy.

It's like Radio is still stuck on that "mornings drive the station" thing.

I once worked in a situation where the morning show was a C+ and the rest of the day we kicked a fat A- at our worst. So... guess who got left OFF the billboards.

AND ANOTHER THING (this is joke... is funny cause my post is long-winded already)!

96 Rock can pretty much do whatever they want. I mean, The River has no brand awareness associated with ROCK, AND DOESN'T even identify itself between every tune (read: NO!!! NO!!! NOT IN YOUR SITUATION, MR. RIVER). Every time River plays a song perceived as "rock", 96 Rock is getting the credit, guaranteed.

SO... in summation... Blah Blah. Blah blah, blahblahblah.
