ROR Afternoons

Is there any chance the do something different, or are the just going to lock in some bland puker like Paul Perry?

Bland puker? Wow... that's a little rough. Paul Perry is a damn good jock, he was great on Oldies 103.3 and great in Providence. And actually not a bad guy. What do you expect ROR to do that is so "different"?

And what time is your radio show on LucyLu so I can tune in and hear what fascinating compelling broadcasting should be?

I agree Paul is good. As far as someone else's comment about him talking about his kids, that's what the audience will relate to more than some tidbit about Steve Winwood, which probably has a place on WROR too. As far as recent Boston personalities that would fit, there's even Ed McMann if it's worth it for him to stop voicetracking multiple stations & just go live on WROR. I don't know if there would be a non-compete issue but he fits the format & worked the market more recently than Perry or Jo Jo.

For someone who is alleged to ' have it going on ' Stacy's Mom, you're rather yolked in your thinking. I didn't know I had to have my own show to be able to have an opinion about radio. I guess I better keep my comments about the Pat's (because I never played the game), restaurants ('cause I never owned one) and politics ( 'casue I don't hold office) to myself too. :D Other than gas mileage on a mini van, what are you qualified to comment about?

Different? How about Patrick Murry in the afternoons. When he showed up, I used to love his show at nights on the old WZLX, but then, I'm not a stoner so I guess I'm not qualified to comment about that either. ::)

I think your both right. Lucy is a wannabe who never made it in radio and Paul is a puker. He's dry and boring. What are you people 70 years old out here!

I know plenty LucyLu... don't worry about my credibility. I'm not saying you can't comment... but why don't you do it like an adult, not a 12 year old. If you don't like Paul Perry, that's fine... but leave the name-calling out of it.

Congratulations.

Lucy's point is very solid, as usual. Paul Perry would not bring added ratings nor revenue to WROR. He's a capable jock, pleasant, professional.

But that's it. People aren't going to think "Hey, Paul Perry is on! I better turn on 'ROR so I don't miss anything!" Even some of Stern's detractors during his terrestrial days tuned in to hear what he'd say next.

It's not Perry's fault that perhaps at this point he's no longer a draw, if he ever was. I don't think he's the cure for what ails that station.

I don’t think I was ‘calling anyone names’, but rather; painting an accurate picture with words. Paul Perry practices that particularly bland style of radio that ROR (or anyone else) doesn’t really need right now, but I‘m sure he‘ll always find work because bland is good in Corp. Radio. Considering the rest of the station is a tune-out after Loren & Wally (whom I don’t care to listen to either) you would think they would want to engage the listener more. Then again, maybe not. Radio’s answer to ipods and XM and all that seems to be cover their heads and hope it goes away.

PS: I never questioned your credibility. [EDIT]

[EDIT--inflammatory]

No clue but Kevin Redding is still there (as of a couple days ago anyway) and Paul Perry was on this past Sunday afternoon again.

Interesting, since "Cookin" actually did a shift on that very same frequncy, playing almost the same music when they were F-105 in the late 70's !

Maybe they should go back to the 'VBF calls altogether?

MA Broadcasters Org has a job opening listed for ROR afternoons.

That means nothing really, it was listed on allaccess two weeks ago too. As you probably know nine times out of ten by the time the job is advertised it has long been filled.

It's just a thought...but perhaps WROR is ready to try something a little different?
I know a few possible formats that would probably work rather well in Boston. ;)

As for Paul Perry, I had the pleasure of working with him several years ago in Providence. He's a pro and while his on-air style might not appeal to everybody, his on-air personality is easy to take! 8)

I don't think they'd want to change WROR. It's not doing badly. It's in the top ten in the 12+, and it has been beating WZLX, their former competition, consistently for a few years now. I know there are other format voids in Boston, but I can't think of one that would be likely to rate and bill as well for them, and as you know, that's what the game is all about.

But they really do need to develop something to hang their hats on other than Loren and Wally. They won't last forever and the station doesn't have an identity past them.

LUCY THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE SAYING! THIS IS CORPORATE PROGRAMMING!

the same type of suits that never thought to develop something for when Howard Stern eventually left. If no one thought about it on THAT large a scale what makes you think the greater media brain trusts will be any better on the puny scale of WROR?. You can say "different company", these guys are not even as talented as the cbs/infinity crew once were and they still dropped the ball with a good part of tthe game left to go.

Towerbuzz...

You'd know this better than me...but is WROR making any significant ad revenue with the format they currently have? ???

If the "corporate boys and girls" run the numbers and they don't look so hot, perhaps Lucy's suggestion concerning a revamping of the format has a little validity? ::)
