Rory Markas Dies

KNX is reporting Angels, Trojan Basketball sportscaster Rory Markas has died. Long time voice of Angels and SC basketball and was once a sports anchor at KNX.

Rory Markas was an underrated baseball broadcaster. He had just been named the permanent TV play-by-play guy for the Angels. He will be sorely missed. He had comeback from a very serious complication in Nov 2008 having suffered a blood clot in his brain. He coined the phrase "Just another halo victory." May he rest in peace.

Nice tribute on KSPN (710) & I'm sure later on KLAA (830)

It is indeed a sad day in AngelsLand. RIP Rory, too early to go as Roger Lodge expressed a few times this morning on KLAA. I am thankful I have on tape Rory's great calls especially during the 2002 season of course. Someone mentioned besides Rory's call to close WS Game 7, Rory had a wonderful call at the close of the ALCS series that sent them to the WS for the first and (so far) only time. Rory talking about up in heaven Gene Autry looking down and then put his arm around Donnie Moore and said "C'mon Donnie, we're going to the World Series". What a great gentleman. Rory will be missed in so many ways by Angels fans wherever they might be. :(

Rory was a total class act and will be missed very much.

Remember, the Angels never got to the World Series until Rory joined the team.
