Rosie O'Donnell To Oprah Winfrey Network

Earlier this year, it was reported that daytime talk show veteran Rosie O'Donnell would "fill the void" left by another daytime talk show veteran with a little more experience - Oprah Winfrey - when she hangs it up in fall 2011.

Now, in an ironic turn of events, it was announced that starting next fall, Rosie's new show will air, not in syndication, but on - you guessed it - Oprah Winfrey's new cable network, OWN.

So which Rosie is going to be hosting? The nice kind person that had her own show back in the 1990s, or the mean bitc# who was on The View for a short time? If it's the second person, then this will be a short-lived program.

According to the article, the caveat behind this surprising result was that O'Donnell abruptly quit both of the aforementioned stints. Apparently, that had a lot of bearing as to whether or not a CBS or an NBC Universal would invest in a new broadcast series long-term, so that's why her new series will air on OWN.

How does this thing keep reappearing on the screen and what type of audience actually follows it? Remember, during the Clinton happy times, it was rabidly anti-gun, but later it was exposed that it's adopted kid's bodyguards were ARMED??? Glad it will be on cable, so I won't be exposed to it while scanning the channelwaves.

The thing about Rosie is she is very funny. She is at her best when she talks about things like celebrities, shopping, children, collecting things.

Her downfall is politics. She simply does not have the mental capacity to talk about things like that. Or if she does have the mental capacity he doesn't bother to study enough on it.

Another example is Elisabeth of "The View." Did you notice how often Elisabeth is right? But she says something correct, and doesn't have the mental capacity to back it up. So her co-stars challange her and she winds up looking like a moron even though the statement is correct, because she isn't smart enough to back it up.

If Rosie sticks to entertainment and light comedy, she'll shine. She's good for those subject, but please Rosie stay away from politics.

I liked Rosie's old talk show. I used to watch it everyday after school. (After a couple years at 11AM on WTNH Channel 8 - The ABC Talk Show Carol and Marilyn was bounced to sister station then-known as WB 59 WBNE (now MY TV 9 WCTX) NBC 30 WVIT picked up the show first airing it at 5PM and then moving it to 4PM when WVIT launched a 5PM Newscast),.

Now obviously as a man I'm not in the targeted demographic of "The View", I did check Rosie out on the show a couple times during the first few minutes of the show before the first commercial break and to me it seemed like Rosie had taken over the show and tried to make it hers.

Curiosity wants me to check out Rosie's new show on the Oprah Winfrey Network, but unfortunately I will not be a subscriber to this channel. OWN as it will be called is replacing Discovery Health Network and Discovery Health Network is a higher Digital Tier than I currently subscribe to. (Maybe if my financial situation improves in the future I'll be able to subscriber to a higher Digital Tier to get more channels, but in the mean time I'll have to check out Rosie's show when I visit my parents as they have COX Cable and Discovery Health (to be OWN) is part of the Digital Tier they subscribe to).

With the network investing in talent like Rosie O'Donnell - and not to mention the fact that the network will be powered by Oprah - I have a gut feeling that Oprah and Discovery and going to try and convince many cable operators to try and push the network from digital to a more basic tier - that is, considering they already have the current Discovery Health (and chances are, they'll only talk to those carrying the network on a digital tier).
