Round Table going full circle?

I've heard the idea tossed around that the Round Table may, indeed, fill the gaping hole from 6am to 8am on WLAC now currently occupied by the "Here, look at this cute little puppy. Call the number on your screen to adopt him" show, and that the whole "Round Table is going away" thing is just a publicity stunt to drum up interest and sympathy.

Any truth to this?
______________

I am gonna say no, because the show has already been on WLAC and I doubt the Clear Channel folks will sub-contract a portion of morning-drive to a show that isn't highly-rated.

With the right promotion, the show could do well. Not great, but well. It received ZERO promotion from WAMB and only its TV coverage from "The Public Forum" for that matter. And who says they have to subcontract it. Perhaps it could be done in-house. I'm just sayin'.
______________

It wasn't promoted by WAMB because it wasn't their show. The Public Forum bought the time from them. Brokered shows typically aren't promoted. It'd be like promoting an infomercial.

And I don't think the show would do that well anymore. It was on WLAC and then on WWTN where it received plenty of promotion.

I doubt the Roundtable hosts would ever agree to be "in-house" again. They'd have to cede a lot of control over their show.

I am getting a kick out of the bloggers from the Nashville Scene and others who think this show is a "public service" and that $96,000 isn't much money for the show they're doing. It's obvious these people have no concept of how radio works and don't know what they're talking about.

Well, The Zone has become the masters of promoting the infomercials. Every time I listen, I hear promos for their DUI Mike show and that god-awful camping show. Then again, nobody accused The Zone of being the best radio station in town, either.
______________

I've never understood why the hosts did well in the first place, but now would be a good time to try it again because of the interest in liberal talk (it's apparently coming to Chattanooga, of all places). And if their "not for profit" has truly been disbanded, then they'll need to find work somewhere. And if they can negotiate some spots to sell, they can replace some of what's loss by having to accept a salary.

It could be that those shows have promotions worked into their contract or bought ad time to promote them.

You are so right -- reading what all of these whiners are writing is hilarious. If your program can't make it in commercial radio, then just raise money and call it "public radio," oops, I mean "radio free nashville," oops, I mean "public forum." What's obvious is that there are a lot of people out there that have more money than THEY know what to do with. I've got some real causes for them that actually help people, and make real differences in their lives, in case they're interested...

The last show today didn't get a lot of press coverage, at least not that I have seen.
