Rovers - Wasn't That a Party

I was reading through a thread on another Radio-Info Forum about different versions of songs played in different markets. On WBEN-FM (Rock 102) and WBEN-AM in late 1980, I had heard The Rovers "Wasn't That A Party"; yet this version was sans the siren during the refrain, and had an extended fade. There was a tad of reverb on this version too.

It would seem that if this were a custom version, it would have been difficult to remove a sound from a 2-track recording (such as a siren SFX). Would anyone in the Buffalo NY area know where WBEN obtained this version?

Was that an original or a cover version? Some cover versions did not have the siren sound.

Oh it was the Rovers. The rest of the recording was as it was on the regular LP/single. The mix differences were mostly EQ and reverb. And even the vocal track was the same as where the siren should be.

...and it's not on You Tube some place? That's unusual.

Oh I know. I thought for sure I would hear it somewhere else, especially in this YouTube age. I post on the "Top 40 Music on CD" forum, where they keep a database of promo and radio edits. A there are a lot of broadcasters and record collectors on that site. Even they've never heard of it.

It's also hard to find the instrumental solo version of TLC's Waterfalls song.
Perhaps the source that provided that to various non rap stations might know something... ???

Are you saying the actual "instrumental" version, or the promo version that removes the rap? The latter I have somewhere.

Yes, the actual song with Lyrics, minus the rap in the solo part, although I bet the instrumental version is also hard to find these days.

Getting back to the original topic, I think the best answer might be found by contacting someone through their website:

http://irishroversmusic.com/page/contact/#contenttop I recommend contacting the American source, since it was an American station you've mentioned.

I will look at that link and contact them.

As for your TLC question, in Canada it was on a CD-5 single promo, and it would have been on a BMG Compilation Promo. In New York, did you get CD compilation discs sent by the majors, or just CD singles?

I had the instrumental on a cd single and the non-rap version was the radio edit that was added as a throwback on a "Promo Only" cd I used to subscribe to.

Good! Thanks!
