ROWDY ALREADY SCORES MORNINGS IN TULSA

Congratulations to my friend Rowdy Yates (aka) Josh Holstead for scoring a morning gig at KVOO-FM in Tulsa. KILT missed their chance to keep him in mornings and now he joins a legendary radio station like KVOO. Way to go Rowdy, knock em dead in Tulsa.

Wow! He really has scored big. Wish we could hear him down here during the day. KVOO used to come in like gangbusters down here at night. Seems like something changed when they started programming to the truckers at night. Antenna change maybe? But, they're still a Tulsa powerhouse. And, they haven't changed all that much; unlike so many AMs in larger markets. They still serve their market better than just about any other station. They probably still let their jocks have fun on the air.

With his personality and experience, I'm betting he becomes a Tulsa favorite very quickly.

Note that we're talking about KVOO-FM 98.5. The AM station on 1170 has been news/talk KFAQ for several years, and the pattern is the same as it was for many decades as KVOO.

I never had a doubt that Rowdy would land himself a good gig in Tulsa. The only question was "when".

Don't you know KVOO's PD is already calling 2011 the best year of his life? Landing somebody of Rowdy's stature and abilities for morning drive is a major coup. Rowdy is gonna knock'em dead in Tulsa.

FYI: You can listen in on their website, which is http://www.kvoo.com/listenlive

The KVOO morning vacancy was made possible by the departure of former Tampa (WQYK-FM, then later, WFUS) morning host Skip Mahaffey, who had left in January after just ten months on the air at KVOO. I think Skip's back in Tampa now, though nothing on the radio radar at the moment.
