Royalty Update

SOMA FM's Rusty Hodge has a 1/22/08 music royalty update on his blog:

"...SoundExchange and small (and large) broadcasters continue to hold discussions on the royalty situation...we've verbally agreed to continue paying at the 2006 rates while the discussions continue. I don't think SoundExchange wants to shut down most webcasters...it looks like the Copyright Act is getting a substantial re-write due around 2010 and will treat analog and digital systems the same..."

This is why virtually all webcasters are still streaming.

Soundxchange came out of nowhere AT THE LAST SECOND and saved streaming as we know it :)

Kudos? Are you nuts? It's because of them and the RIAA that streaming is now and terrestrial radio will soon be in a heap of hurt! In a way I wished they had killed streaming so people would be able to say "told you so" to the faces of these stupid and greedy individuals. Mind you, if someone made it law that the RIAA had to account for all the royalties they paid out as well as all the "administrative" charges that prevent artists from receiving said royalties there would be a different story.

It's because of these idiots I no longer buy CDs - I buy old vinyl, maybe one used CD a year and that's it - if the artists don't get their royalties there's no reason to buy their music new, so why not recycle, save the environment and save money?
