Royce International saga, update

Supposedly there is going to be an announcement this week, we’ll find out. It may not be Jimtraxx involved but someone else.

About a month ago I was driving in the Palm Springs area and heard KRCK and one of its translators just playing nonstop pop hits in jukebox mode with a few "Hot Hits 97.7" sweepers between songs. I may have even heard a couple of ads - it appears to have just revived the old format prior to the VCY America debacle and is running on autopilot. It is NOT running any kind of news talk format as the previous article mentioned.

I’m enjoying the music so for. Guess Stolz had a change of heart to bring Dance to the Bay Area. Hopefully it’ll be long term.

Is that confirmed? If so, who is programming it?

An earlier post in this thread mentioned it would be programmed by JamTraxx which I believe is in Chicago.

you obviously didnt read the radioinsight article linked above

I did read it but the wording didn't make it clear that Albuquerque station owner Don Davis is programming these stations.

In fact, Lance wrote...
They state they are collaborating with several well-known broadcasting trend-setters in the New-EDM / Club Music industry\
...which I thought was a reference to JamTraxx based on the earlier comments here.

Reading it again, it's still a little ambiguous but K6JHU is probably right. Thanks for pointing back to the link.

EDIT: Inside Radio's article states clearly that Don Davis is programming the station.

At least the new programming, even if temporary, is a much better choice for the signal than the old programming (low budget CHR), which never made any sense. And it's definitely a vast improvement over VCY America!

The guy is nuts, but at least a sensible format now airs on that signal given its limitations.

Format is good and upbeat at the same time, plus underserved in the Bay Area. Station ID's are okay with the british women voice. Will be even better if they invite live DJ's to do mixshows.

Although we will never know what the ratings are despite Stolz never reports them.

If it gets numbers, subscribers will see them. Stoz never subscribes so the "free and useless" 6+ numbers given to the media will not show the station.

The IDs sound cheap to me. They genuinely sound like IDs from pirate radio, recorded by a DJ's girlfriend and knocked together by an amateur on Peter Quistgard's copy of Cool Edit in a back bedroom somewhere - perhaps that's the sound they're going for.

The format is big in Europe, where most cities have a Dance station of some kind and rhythmic pop-dance dominates the charts. But what I've heard so far of this station is unfocused and messy. It's similar to Alternative in that it's really many different sub-genres and sub-formats, and fans of one won't listen to another. Cramming all styles of EDM on one station will please nobody.
