Royce International saga, update

Blamin' it all
on the nights on NyQuil
Playin' them love songs
Playin' them straight to the heart songs

...I will wait
Even if it takes forever
I will wait
Even if it takes a lifetime

Blaming' it all
on that first scoundrel Receiver
Filin' them motions
Filin' anything that doesn't move

(with apologies to The Bee Gees, Larry Patrick & the makers of NyQuil)

They called a business to verify if stations were on air.
And the trustee knew they would be taking over in early March! It took the trustee-designee 5 months, 29 days to devise this scheme.

That’s the thing. No one could of flown out for a day and check?
...and submit the expense and wait several decades for payment? The Trustee probably knows how Crazy Ed operates.

Hell, they could of asked the board and got a much more accurate answer.
It's kinda telling when the Trustee states the public is better served if the station remains off the air to preserve future value.

To be honest, if Ed Stolz hadn't insulated himself with the LLCs, all of these stations would better serve the public by being deleted. The only people who care about these stations at this point are the creditors. In Las Vegas and San Francisco, they're number 70 of 70 signals, so nobody would miss them if they never saw the light of day again. Palm Springs has fewer stations, but seriously, nobody complained to the FCC that they were off the air for years, and nobody has bought a dime of advertising in ages, so who the Hell would miss them? It's the old metaphor "If a tree falls in a forest and nobody's there to hear it, does it make a sound?" Or, in this case, "If an Ed Stolz station never broadcasts and nobody reported it or missed it, who cares?"

Licensed to Mecca, its main market is Palm Springs.
Palm Springs is not the "main market" of any station here. It is relatively small and barely over 10% of the market population.

And Mecca as well as the station's transmitter site are closer to the Salton Sea than to Palm Springs. It's a Class A that at least has a translator up the Valley to fill in, but is in all respects a defective signal.

The metro is Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Bermuda Dunes, Cathedral City, Thousand Palms, Indio, and Indian Wells as well as Thermal and Mecca.

Palm Springs, unlike the "lead city" in most metros, is not the largest in population... that is Indio to the far east side of the Valley. Palm Springs is the 5th largest city in the metro.

So, for some formats such as any that targets Hispanics, that signal may be quite competitive. Indio and adjacent Coachella are around 90% Hispanic and both in the East Valley.
Yeah, but it's licensed to Mecca, CA.

Ever been to Mecca?? o_O
Not a tourist town.

Very interesting, thank you.

But if it’s silent for a year it’ll lose its value

Quite sad. Had Ed Stolz kept Energy 92.7, perhaps he wouldn’t be bankrupt. That station was doing well.
