RTN & WSAH

I saw in another thread that there's a network called RTN, the Retro TV Network. I'm not sure how new it is, but I see they have a bunch of affiliates across the country, including Providence. But NO AFFILIATES in Boston, New York or Hartford-New Haven.

Wouldn't it be an awesome opportunity for WSAH in Bridgeport to pick up this network? I can't see how that station is doing any good by broadcasting infomercials and home shopping nearly 24/7. And if RTN was on WSAH, they'd get viewers in parts of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut!

And if I'm not mistaken, Bill DeFelice suggested more than once putting News12 on WSAH for viewers in southwestern CT. That would also be a win-win situation for News12 and WSAH!

Fairfield County is such an untapped marketplace, I just don't understand why a station like WSAH doesn't take a look at these opportunities out there. Maybe they do, but would rather make money off of infomercials, instead of serving and entertaining the public? And I don't mean broadcasting in a language (Spanish or Chinese) that only a small portion of the population would understand and watch. I don't know, but I think any company bold enough to market a station to the Farfield County area would see a huge return on their investment. Maybe some day...

Personally, I'd rather watch RTN than home shopping, or even MyTV for that matter. It'd be nice if it was available in Connecticut.

I don't know that RTN would ever allow itself to go on WSAH. WSAH is completely unviewable in New York, and is in the New York DMA. Now if one of the New York stations or something close by like WMBC-DT wanted to do it, I'm sure it'd happen.

Binding RTN to a station that most people in the market can't see would be bad business.

Besides, the company that owns WSAH is Multicultural Broadcasting. I believe that at some point they plan to put Asian language programming on their five (soon to be six) TV stations, but I don't know anything beyond that, nor why exactly they think Asian language programming would work on WRAY in Raleigh.

WSAH is available to DirecTV viewers in the NYC Metro area. It's also a complete waste of bandwidth, and as a subscriber, I would certainly welcome the deviation from its present format that the Retro network would provide.

In the Providence area, RTN will be available on WJAR's 10.3 subchannel (UHF 51.3). One of the major reasons I splurged in purchasing a DTV converter and a decent UHF antenna was in preparation for WJAR to activate the RTN feed on 10.3 . I live about 40 miles from the WJAR tower in Rehoboth, MA and get a pretty good signal with their main and Weather Plus channels. I'm really looking forward to watching RTN in the not-too-distant future. I also get WLNE's 6.1 and 6.2, though not as strong as WJAR. BTW, why does WLNE call their 6.2 subchannel "WLNE-NW"? It's of much lesser quality video than the main carrier.

COX and WSAH (was re: RTN & WSAH)

Anyone know what's going on with COX Meriden and WSAH and HSN? On The TV Guide Channel and on TVGUIDE.COM they have HSN listed as 8. 8 is still WSAH. Also on ZAP2it.COM they have HSN listed as 8 and WSAH listed as 75. HSN is still on 95. Can't get an answer from COX's website. Their channel line-up is from 3/27. And it has WSAH as 8 and HSN as 79. (79 is the channel location with a Digitial Box).
