RTV (115 SEPARATE FEEDS.........OR NOT)

RTV has 115 affiliates (most are sub channels). If you go to their website it almost looks as
if each station has it's own scheule. Surely, they are not doing 115 station feeds (and don't
call me Shirley). That doesn't seem logical.

I'd suspect that they are probably doing something like 4 national (time zone) feeds and maybe
about 4 other "alternate programming" feeds.

This just doesn't seem to be a GREAT business model.......and sounds a bit wasteful of overkill.

Wikipedia states that RTV is working mostly off the NBC-UNIVERSAL library (including Revue).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBC_Universal_Television_Distribution

About 46 "possible" shows are listed, but RTV doesn't air maybe half of them. Of the ones they
have I don't think any are before 1980. Here's some possible shows they could condiser getting
from the NBC library.......to update/improve (although retro, they're not really ancient). How
much more mileage can RTV get out of shows like "Leave It To Beaver" and "Bonanza"?

***Northern Exposure (1990-95) hey that was 16 years ago.
***Quantum Leap (1989-93)
Major Dad (1989-93)
Coach (1989-97) may be too soon for this one
same thing for Murder She Wrote (1984-96)
Miami Vice (1984-89)
Charles In Charge (1984-90)
Simon & Simon (1981-88)
Magnum P.I. (1980-88)
Rockford Files (1974-80)

I'll be the first to admit that I only watched two of those shows (***). Perhaps, that is the issue,
NBC UNIVERSAL seems to be mostly grade C+/B- material. Maybe RTV should shop around.

Maybe RTV has only one or two national feeds, with local affiliates filling the blanks locally with programming provided by RTV, replacing programming that other local stations have the rights to.

Of course, when Equity owned RTV, just about every affiliate had its feed fed to them via satellite.

Couldn't some stations be recording the feeds and time-shifting as they see fit?
It seems like that's what was causing some of the programming miscues a while back: segments were out of order, credits would roll in the middle of shows, etc.
It's not really a "network" in the traditional/FCC sense, it's more of an "alternative programming option," isn't it? Just giving subchannels another option, and throwing in some national ads here and there for revenue?

RTV has Kate & Allie and Amen, those are from the 80s. Different markets air different shows. I think there are more than 4 different schedules. ::) I have seen some with the same schedule, though.

I agree, the separate schedule thing is a joke- what is the point? Just another strange thing about this channel. They need new shows....or more episodes...or something. The imaging is awful. When Luken took over, it went down the drain. It was a great little channel back in 2005-2008 before it got widespread. Antenna TV and Me-TV should make them nervous.

All 3 of those shows air daily on RTV in NYC. But I agree, they definitely need more variety.
