RTV GETS WARNER BROS. LIBRARY

I saw this on a reliable blog but haven't seen an official press release. It appears Valcom/Luken
Communications have made a deal with Warner Brothers for their library to use on RTV, TUFF TV,
PBJ, My Family TV.

That would make sense because these shows are not on Antenna or Me-TV. I'd guess they are mostly
seeking older shows such as.............. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warner_Brothers_TV

Cheyenne
Maverick
Lawman
F Troop
The F.B.I.
Kung Fu
Wonder Woman
Alice
Dukes Of Hazzard
Bugs Bunny Show
Road Runner
Daffy Duck Show
Porky Pig Show

This may not be the "ideal" library, but it betters what they currently have.

3 days ago - Luken Communications reaches agreement with Warner Bros. Television Distribution for high quality library programming for RTV, PBJ, MyFamilyTV and Tuff TV ...

scroll down to the purple PBJ logo

OK....upon further inspection......looks like some kind of Fantasy schedule.......WTF :D
Still sounds like a good idea though. STOP THE PRESSES ;D

That forum looks like all fantasy schedules for many networks -- especially Cartoon Network and Nick.

Rule of thumb regarding blogs and forums -- make sure they, too, have a source.

There's a saying.. "A Day Late and a dollar short".It's a little better BUT RTV lost affiliates in droves this fall.We in Providence lost RTV to METV on WJAR

With that fact, plus the fact that most of RTV's shows are from Peter Rodgers, with a few Sony shows not picked up by Antenna TV, I find it hard to believe that RTV would get the rights to the Warners library, unless they found a substantial amount of money recently.

As the FANTASY person had suggested I could see them cherry picking some of the older
pre-1984 shows listed above that nobody else has. They'd only be buying about 15 shows
and most are retro or black & white..........they should be able to afford that much.

Gregg, I think the sun is slowly setting at RTV. Had they picked up some shows like the Waltons, MASH, etc. they could have stopped the bleeding, but lets be serious how many repeats of I SPY can most people take? ;D

I'd expect them to make a deal with the dollar discount DVD bins at Wal Mart and Dollar General before they get a deal with Warner Bros. ;D Face it, when you're stuck trying to sell the failed LA run of Crook & Chase as "retro", that barrel bottom is gone, there's very little leverage left. I get the feeling that MyFamily is pretty much the future for Luken and RTV is being purposefully sunsetted with a lousy schedule.

Here are some other shows from the Warner Bros. Library that RTV could air:

- Babylon 5
- Captain Planet [E/I] (*) (TBS original program; also con-currently syndicated)
- Family Matters
- Full House
- Hangin' With Mr. Cooper
- In The House
- Mad TV
- Perfect Strangers
- Pick Your Brain [E/I] (TBS original program; also con-currently syndicated)
- Pinky And The Brain (*)
- Smallville
- Step By Step
- The Hogan Family
- The Smurfs (*)
- Tiny Toon Adventures (*)
- Any classic talk shows like Jenny Jones or Rosie O'Donnell

Many of those are not that retro.

I think RTV is down but I don't think they are hurting that bad. They also have
Tuff TV and PBJ. Remember those 80 or so silent stations Luken bought last
Summer, once they are up things should get better.

They also have a lot of infomercials in the early morning......hours of it. I'd think
those alone would be enough to reach the break even point. Add in the regular
commercials and the picture gets even brighter. Remember most of the stations
are on a barter basis........so most of the commercial profits are 100% Luken.

If some of these Mexicale and Untamed Sports can survive, so can RTV.

Except that LPTVs are not eligible for the same regulations that full-powered stations enjoy. Full-powered stations and their subchannels can negotiate to be carried on a cable system, either as a must-carry or under a retransmission agreement. LPTVs cannot -- the only way they can be seen on cable is if they either lease a cable slot from the cable system, or be owned by the same company that owns a local full-powered station, in which the LPTV can be part of a station's retrans agreement.

Unless Luken has alot of money to buy their way onto cable, you'll need an antenna to see their stations. And with most homes getting their TV with cable or satellite, the viewership potential is much less than with full-powered television.

I think many of those stations were in towns with 30,000 populations or less. It might be easier for low power to get on cable there than somewhere like Miami.

Wish RTV would pick up St. Elsewhere and LA Law.

Yeah, American Life TV had both of those shows 2 years ago and then dropped them. ALN recently became YouToo, which is pretty much another expendable network.

Any of these would be much better than what they currently air. The problem with RTV and MeTV is they are too old leaning. Way too many black and white shows.
I don't know why they would want to appeal to such an old audience as that demo is usually not
lucrative in terms of advertising. They need to bring back a lot of the 70's and 80's stuff.
The only show I like on MeTV is Taxi and that is going away this week.

I wish them the best b/c it would mean more choices for me. However, I will only believe this when I see it. And even then I may not believe it. (E.g: What if they only bought a few episodes from each show?)

I could see them showing the same 13 or so episodes of a series, kind of like what they have seemingly done in the past. Whoopee.

I seem to recall my aunt and uncle saying they had a dish.

I don't know what channel it was but I was on the computer for much of the day and I could hear familiar music or lines from Bugs Bunny and Tweety cartoons in the next room. When I passed by the youngest grandchild was usually in there.

With the exception of Full House most of those shows are unmemorable duds and do not stand the test of time, Andy Griffith and Leave it to Beaver may be black and white and not only stand the test of time and are still very popular, kids love Leave it to Beaver......they are mezmorized by family TV in the 50's

Well I wouldn't say shows like "Route 66" that currently air on RTV are standouts either...
