Rude CC people

So, I called Clear Channel Orlando today and asked to speak to an engineer. Was noticing a drop in DB on WJRR on my hi-def radio. No other CC station was doing this, just WJRR. The "lady" at the switchboard told me this:

"Our Engineers don't take calls from listeners".

Are you kidding me? Hey Lynda Byrd, is this how you handle incoming calls into your office???!!!!
It's not like I was looking for the PD to check the status of the mp3 file I sent over last year??!!!!

I've had better customer service from operators in India than this girl. Hey CC, do you coach and monitor these incoming calls, do your employees ever return phone calls? Perhaps if I was a small business owner who contemplated about a rate card you would have treated me with more respect????!!!!

Sad,very sad.

They don't care until the numbers go south. On the flipside, I got a polite and prompt reply from Kimberly Munoz over at WDYZ when I asked about their HD signal being down:

Thank you for your message and for listening to Radio Disney. Our HD exciter has failed. We're just waiting for the parts to arrive so that we can repair it and get our HD signal back up and running. We don’t have an ETA for that but hope it will be very soon.

How many read this & saw "DIZ", and felt their hearts skip a beat?

Why because the station has a policy of not transferring every listener's call to the engineer?

Have you ever even been in the shoes of an engineer these days? They're lucky if we can get 5 minutes to have a vending machine lunch these days.
With all that goes on, the last thing that they need to be doing is fielding calls from listeners. Work with the engineers some day, and you'll see what I mean.

So Necrat, are you telling me that as a listener I mean nothing to your company? Really? If an engineer is soooooooooo busy then either staff up, re-organize or find another gig.

You really missed my point too. If the engineer is sooooooooo busy then the dork answering the telephone needs to be coached appropriately. Telling a listener, potential client or anyone for that matter that someone in a significant role "doesn't take phone calls from listeners" is not only RUDE but just bad business.

Are we soooooooooooooo busy that we cannot be polite and offer a nice greeting? C'mon man!!

Does anyone have a dollar? I need a sandwhich! Hold my calls please!! ;)

Being on both sides, engineer, management and Jock....Most people..would not understand what the engineer was telling them what was wrong! Not talking about you Vadar, but the average listener doesn't even know what a HiDef Radio is... I have ran many stations in the beginning of the CD movement and had jocks announce..."From the Q94 CD .... and they were just playing a cart...No one knew the difference!!BIGAPE

LOL! That's funny, dude. It's 2012, not 1952. Politeness on the phone went out with the first Bush Administration.

But back to Vadar's original post, the Maitland engineers are too busy and too surly to have total strangers phone them and tell them how to do their job.

If you actually had gotten through to an engineer, you probably would have been cursed out and hung up on, Vadar.

And this is acceptable behavior? A listener would be cursed out, really?

Man, dont be mad you got stopped at the front desk, thank that girl. If you HAD got through
to them, you would have no ass left to sit down on

No ass to sit on? By an engineer at CC? In the words of Ozzie Guillen - "plueez". However, if you mix it up with one of the independent engineers - now you got your hands full.

This. It's easy to outrun 350lbs of (formerly) twinkie eating CC engineer. Indeps can outrun you & beat your tail!

No necret, nobody is that busy for at least a bit consideration, or at least leave a message in the engineering mailbox to get back to as you are at your desk eating your vending machine lunch (ah boo hoo). By the way, great engineers know how to manage their time and their work.

The CC receptionist should also be fired. Rudeness shouldn't be tolerated in a business. CC is an arrogant company. With the billions of dollars in debt they are, you'd think they'd learn a lesson in treating people proberly...you never know when you need that contact.

And, the bottom line is this....it's radio, not brain surgery!

You call my receptionist and she would gladly transfer you to my cell phone, and I answer. The engineers in Orlando are top notch. I wonder how you asked ....... To be transferred to an engineer.
And all of us in this industry are overworked but rudeness in a secretary is unacceptable.

Finally............some sane voices here! Rude people have no place interacting with clients. Linda Byrd should take note and TAKE ACTION. This "girl" is rude, not helpful and is this really the environment CC Orlando promotes within their office. Perhaps a call to Corporate and some special coaching is in the works here.

So sad to see all the lame excuses about how busy engineers are. Gimme a break, just answer the phone, have simple manners and BE POLITE!!! We are your listeners, we are your customers!!!!
