I heard the Newboys are rude, and so is Carmen.

Makes for an interesting conversation.

a former newsboys member was when i met him. the original lead singer. carmen is a nice guy. ive met him also.
i cant think of any rude artists. i can think of some non rude ones. steven curtis chapman, rebecca st james was super nice when i met her. jaci velasquez sent my wife a postcard when we got married wishing us good luck. i met gary chapman in nashville in 1999. he was hanging around outside meeting people getting ready to tape his tnn show. nope no rude ones..

I've met more "good" than bad. It depends on the situation. If they are in public being mobbed and it seems the whole world wants a piece of them I can see them being overwhelmed.

Everyone who has dropped by the station has been polite or better. They are not being overwhelmed there ... just visiting.

justalurker ...Good point! There are days I don't feel like being all "Hi how are ya".

Greg Long is A SUPER NICE GUY.

One of our staffers slipped up and made a flatulence joke around him and he was super graceful about it.

That staffer has grown up since, BTW.

The more respectful and gentle one is to these overstressed persons, the more you see the real side.. I've been a mate of the multi-generations of Newsboys... Yes, their early and raw humor side (Aussie) personalities set a few to scratch their heads... BUT, if you really get to know any of them, I think you'd see that much of the negative was running into one or two of them after a long day or tense tour... I miss those nights at the Way-Nashville studio and at the apartments near Hickory Hollow... Doing late night Waffle House runs and sitting at O'Charlie's in Brentwood talking life and general cultural things.. I made them a "Vegamite Pizza" that we attempted to eat while on the air, one night in 1994 (at Way-Nashville)... Fun stuff..... "Oyeeee!"

I have to speak up in defense of the Newsboys - they did a concert - FREE - on the beach at Daytona because the Lord led them to. It was interesting, because they drew 3000 to 5000 kids (difficult to get exact #'s at a free event). MTV had Eric Clapton at a nearby hotel at the same time. He barely drew 200 to 300, I didn't even know about the event until I walked through the courtyard where he was playing. Passed right by him, too. I've met one of them and talked with him at length, really nice guy.

Carman is known for enforcing strict and high quality standards in his counselors after the concert - similar to Billy Graham. Somebody doing unauthorized couseling after a concert would likely have an unpleasant encounter with some of his staff (or him personally). But that is keep cults at bay - they tend to try to piggyback on some ministries (a cult outside a Billy Graham crusade passing out their trash for example). Carman goes a long way to train his people in advance of an event.

Gee, I'm not a Christian artist, but I know I've been rude once or twice in my lifetime. How would you like to be on display all the time and looked upon as some sort of unique spiritual giant just because your name is on a CD cover and you can carry a tune? Christian musicians are flawed, fallen and sinful human beings. No one can keep up a "nice" veneer all of the time. Sure, there are jerks in Christian music, but everyone is entitled to a bad day. Today's Bible reading is John 8:7.

So was I - really nice guy when I met him all those years ago. If you had a different experience, I am sorry, check your own attitude. Is your motivation for posting this that you are anti-CCM? There have been some particularly nasty web pages made about the Newsboys by some latter day Pharisees. If you came off as one of those ignorant twits - I wouldn't blame him for being a bit cross with you.

You appear either incredibly forgetful, mentally unwell, or prone to inventing "memories" for posting. Here's exactly what you wrote a mere few posts earlier:

Either you met him and had some experience that others witnessed, or you didn't. Either it was in a magazine of which you can provide a scanned image, or it wasn't. You've now claimed both, but neither looks true. It looks most like gossip, and gossip just "made up" by you so that you could make yet another post.

Time for you to put up, or time for you to acknowledge what you've done.

Carmen concert last year.

Carmen Ministries awarded a prize winner and station staff meet and greet. Decided the night of the show not to meet with the disabled child and his mother or staff. Kid was heartbroken.

Spent time during the show talking with Israel. Carmen's manager and close person friend. Football bat.

Despite the kid in the wheelchair there was no interest in meeting with him. Carmen finally met with the kid and his mom after the show. She was upset, why not, she was promised. Never met with staff. Carmen Ministries never responded to their promises on meet and greet.

As a long time fan I became decided that night never to support Carmen again. No resolution to the promises made. Sue us if you aren't happy seems to be their response.

URBAN LEGEND!!! I've been hearing this story not for a year, but close to 15 years. Nobody has ever been able to document it by tracking down the people who were supposedly wronged. Lets put this one to rest the same as we put that Madeline Murry Ohair urban legend to rest BUSTED!!!!

I believe the Carmen incident happened the night Eric Clapton (or was it Jimi Hendrix) went on the Tonight Show... & when asked how it felt to be the world's greatest guitarist, answered "Ask Phil Keaggy."

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to e-mail everyone in my address book about Ms. Murray-O'Haire (why bother checking snopes.com or nrb.org?), then join the search for this poor Penny Brown girl kidnapped from Wal-Mart, & call the cops on my neighbors who MUST be drug dealers: there's a pair of shoes tied together hanging on telephone wires in front of their house. ;)

You know you're huge when you've got urban legends running around about you.

I've met Carman at least twice that I can remember.

Cool guy.

I'd be a bit aloof to strangers too if women showed up at my concerts in wedding dresses because the Lord told them we were supposed to get married.
