Rumba In Tampa

Under performing....... that made my drink shoot out of my nose. Thanks

WCTQ was billing less than a third of the billings of WLTQ, and was definitely underperforming.

David I have to respectfully disagree.

You "think" CTQ (country) billed 1/3 less the LTQ (hot ac)

I assure you these changes were not because CTQ was financially under-performing in the Sarasota market.

I look forward to your next summation of the SRQ moves, you "insiders" always crack me up..............

The best industry source shows the billing discrepancy between the two facilities. Of course, such sources can be off but they are generally based on MK data or even reports from managers in the market.

The fact that they nuked the format to become an ultra-rimshot into Tampa confirms the lack of billings.

Ultra rimshot? The coverage pop count disagrees. I cant argue MK numbers since that is outside of my scope of work but simply put a "Rimshot" as you say in a top 20 market is always a more valuable asset then a 70ish market radio station.

And you know if LTQ billed more they would've dumped the CTQ Country format all together so I don't think MK numbers are even a factor in this discussion. That is all I am going to say on the matter at this point.

1 thing I will say is the audio processing is pretty good! my woofers move real good. Probably outta give that guy a raise. *wink *wink *nudge *nudge (damn I crack myself up)

The country format was taking about 25% of total Sarasota/Bradenton radio revenues, while the AC was doing 6% to 7%.

The (now) WLTQ signal barely grazes Pinellas Park, and misses Tampa entirely with the 65 dbu signal... and that is where 95% of in-home and at-work listening happens. So the station is very definitely a rimshot to the Tampa / St. Petersburg market.

The real issue is whether advertisers will buy two-deep for Hispanic delivery in the new target market, which is not even a top 20 Hispanic market by population.

This is definitely an ultra rimshot. David is right. It should do okay in Pinellas Park where a small pocket of Hispanics are with a 60-65dBu, but the largest concentration of Hispanics are in Town N' Country, Egypt Lake, and and Carrolwood, where this station puts a 50-54dBu at best. Building penetration in the higher density Hispanic areas will be difficult.

In-Car listening should be okay, with the occasional pops and fading in some areas outside of the 60dBu.

Same scenario occurs in Orlando where WNUE rimshots from the Northeast, but only puts a 50dBu in Kissimmee, where the Hispanic population is huge.

I think it will still take a chunk out of Beasley regardless.

Now whether it's worth it to compete for a total market share of around 3.5, that's another story.

IHeart blew up Alt 100.3 W262CP Bayonet Point/WFUS HD2...now relaying Rumba 106.5 to Pasco/Northern Pinellas.

Makes sense.

Does not make sense to me. They now have Roomba (intentional) on 3 separate channels Alt should get back at least 1 channel imo,or add another HD channel to WFUS. BTW Roomba's suck.

Both translators are necessary to make up for the inadequacy of the main signal.

If WRUB-FM moves their transmitter to (94.1) WLLD's site or Riverview, will it count against Tampa's station count or will it still be owned by the iHeart Sarasota division, as it's in the iHeart Tampa Bay division territory?

The station is licensed outside the Tampa radio market as defined by Nielsen and does not cover, apparently, enough of the Tampa market for attribution. A quick look at the channel and its adjacents would seem to indicate no significant move possibilities.

I enjoyed Alt while it was on, but can see why this move was made.

It was either that or blow up Thunder, which seems to serve iHeart's purpose (presumably to siphon listeners from WBRN and Eagle) for now.

Alt 100.3 in it's given form was destined to be a placeholder (which iHeart managed to sell to sole sponsor Gold & Diamond Source) until they could find a better use for the translator. It would have either taken a full market signal, additional translators, and/or the off chance of a WSUN flip for Alt to have any impact at all.

Based on research I have done in the past, I'd say that Rumba and Maxima have a shot at doing a 5 to 6 share. What the important numbers will show as far as revenue.....I think that WYUU will lose about 16%-20% and Rumba will get about 60% of what the reduced WYUU will be. The move didn't surprise me, though I am surprised no one has gone after WDUV.....

Buccaneers Spanish Radio

I don't think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a Spanish language play-by-play radio feed yet. Would it be a given that iHeart, which owns the Bucs radio rights via WDAE/US103.5, establish Spanish PBP on Rumba?

Looks like Rumba is doing pretty good, the audio is amazing especially the low end very punchy when it needs to be and thunderous when it needs to be. Amazing thats a 10 plus year old processor. I wonder why WYUU sounds so bad?

<ducking>
