RUMBA is already Ka-Put

I've heard many argue that CC made a smart move by flipping 104.5 to Spanish, to entrench itself in the Philly market as the default choice for the Latin audience in Market #7.

Well... if that is the case, then why has Clear Channel, according to a source, registered the domains radio1045.com and radio1045fm.com? ???

Is this true? Will RunWithScissors get his wish for a new rock station?

Gosh. Golly. Dump Rumba? That just couldn't be. All the pundits said Rumba was a genuine masterstroke of corporate genius.

The happenings sure seem to indicate a change is in the wind don't they.

I don't live in Philly anymore... and really have no intention of checking out Rumba online... but weren't they building an airstaff? It seems a little quick for a change already... but who knows... it could happen.

**A quick check of the CC website says they own 7 stations on the 104.5 Frequency. 1 in 7 chance. Not bad!

RADIO 104-Five. "Happy To Give Philadelphia A Choice"

Two questions:

1.) Will this have any effect on Y Rock?

2.) Did Radio 104.5 start with Pearl Jam's "Alive"? :)

Please explain... did they change format, or are you wishing they would?

They kicked off with "Do You Remember Rock N Roll Radio" by The Ramones.

The only thing I don't like is the female voice. IF they want to cater to a rock audience, you NEED a male voice.

So far sounds like a mellow rock station, but not as mellow as Max was, but not as "Alt" was Y100 was

Rumba 104.5 moves to WDAS-AM 1480, killing the long-running Gospel format there...

Thanks, Clear Channel. 104.5 is now the guy version of 106.1 - predictable, generic, no edge, and unimaginative. 2.8 12+ here we come!

From the company that called a station in Philly "Philly's" then renamed it "My," we now have a radio station called "Radio."

And they'll probably have a 250-300 song playlist..focus group tested of course. And they wonder why radio ratings have been sliding over the years...boring, bland, predictable, overplayed playlists and boring card reader DJ's.

Wow. It's been alive for an hour... has played all of 15 songs, and is already getting slammed.

Tough room.

So how many people think they will try to grab Jim McGuinn from WXPN?

What are the chances of actually letting people pick what is played (by suggestion of course, we all know how radio works)

I really don't like the slow boring rock on there (like Coldplay, yuck)

What a joke. At first I thought this thread was a hoaxnow I am in disbelief at the reality. Are they reacting to Skin?

They're clearly gearing their station toward the female demos. I mean, Coldplay? Jimmy Eat World?

It's quite possible they're reacting to the good showing rock had in the latest PPM, and thought it best to beat YSP from going back to rock full-time... Or did they decide to jump the gun based on a leak?

But hey - the last thing Philly needz is a danz stashun. ;D

No, MMR. Thats why they're "Happy To Give Philadelphia A Choice"

Complaints!?!? C'mon people be glad that Alternative is back on a signal that covers the market. Good move I say. Give this thing time to breathe before knocking it down. This will be interesting to watch.

Music isn't tested in focus groups.

How is it tested then? I did a focus group (as a panel member) on music for a local rock station here in CT a few years back..

A focus group is intended to garner perceptions of music styles and genres and acceptabilty and to probe things like satisfaction with existing staitons and sense of need for "different" formats.

A music library is tested using a large group of people, carefully recruited, where the hooks of a few hundred to over a thousand songs are played and scored.
