Rumblings over at Magic 105.3?

Boy are there STRONG rumors of a flip at Magic - but a "soft" flip to "Fresh", the CBS A/C format on the air now in New York and Chicago. Any details, anybody?

Every year we hear about Magic possibly flipping. If anything, maybe they'll add a couple of tunes and call it the "New sound of Magic". But a complete flip...ummm I have my doubts.

I always hear an 80s tune on Magic....1053 The Point? Don't know but someone needs to try something new here.

A "fresh" format or alternative rock would be cool though...probably none of the above will happen

A alternative rock station would be great, doupt that will happen.

I've been to many businesses that play Magic throughout the building during the workday instead of Muzak. I wouldn't see that continuing with a flip to alt-rock, since that format is a big turnoff to most people over 35.

Please recall the late 1970s and early 1980s when hundreds of FMs simultaneously pulled the plug on their Beautiful Music/Easy Listening formats. Many were still quite successful but saw the writing on the wall. KQXT in SA was one of them. KASE in Austin was another. KASE was a top biller in the market when it made the switch from EZ to Country.

Once the average age of the audience for that format went above 54, it was logical that advertisers would lose interest in the stations using that format. Surely that's not the case for the AC format yet, is it?

First off, Cox wouldn't flip Magic to Alternative Rock because of their sister station 99-5 KISS. This would lead into the same problem Univision had with La Kalle and The Beat.

There's no comparison from 106-9 The Point in Houston to Magic 105.3. The Point in Houston is focus on 80's music. Magic is a mixture of 80's, 90's and Today. The problem with Magic is that the music is the same it was five years ago. Same playlist with a hand full of recent add ons. I would like Magic to adopt the "Fresh" format but it's highly unlikely. Magic will still be here come this time next year with another rumor of a possible flip.

I can't edit my original reply, but I thought about this some more and want to add another point. If your point here is that the Magic's AC is skewing too old now, shouldn't the same thing have happened to KONO and Oldies about 5 years ago?

true on the KISS and alternative deal. Probably why Cox doesn't put KKYX on FM.

Magic needs to evolve...nobody plays Backstreet boys anymore

Just viewed Magic 105.3 playlist and it appears they added more music such as Black Eye Peas, Nelly Furtado, Pink, and others.

I checked the playlist and those songs are 2 years or older.

Magic should probably dump the 80s and play more current AC, and add the 80s on HD2

FCC Ownership Rules prohibit that.

Clear Channel had the Buzz 94.5 and Rock 101 KLOL for several years. Cox can pull that off of 105.3 or 106.7 It would make more sense to move KONOs format to KSMG 105.3 (so they can get out of town listeners up I-35 and I-10) play ALL music from the 50s 60s, and 70s keep the Magic label touting "The Magic Is Back on Magic 105.3 and play some oldies tunes in the VO" Now for KONO "San Antonio's New Alternative 101 K-O-N-O with the Rock 101 KLOL voice over" If they really want to piss of the Beat switch Y100.3 to Y106.7 and have The new Power 100.3

97.7 Rock, 98.5 The Beat, 99.5 Kiss, Power 100.3, 101 K-O-N-O, Magic 105.3, and Y-106.7

Jammin 1059 KFMK in Austin does, BOB every know and then. I change the channel every time.
