Rumor about WHVN

I heard a rumor the other day about WHVN. Now I have not verified it and may have a way to do so. Stand by!

A story often told WHVN's transmitter is located on land that is worth more than the station, so it will be sold. WHVN will leave the air on the 31st. WAVO will continue with much of WHVN's programming for now.

Sorry no standards.

Goodbye call-in program set for 3pm-6pm on March 31.

WHVN was originally on 1310 but moved to 1240 when WIST was sold. Prior to 1960 the 1240 frequency used to belong to WSOC but was swapped so WSOC could have the stronger signal on 930. Today of course 930 is the Flagship station for the Bible Broadcasting Network (BBN) as WYFQ. Does anybody listen to it?

Where I live 93.5 FM has the better signal. No, I'm not interested in their talk programming, but if I can remember to turn it on when there is music, sure.

What's your source for WAVO continuing the WHVN format?

Update

The George H Buck Jr. Trust’s Christian Preaching “Heaven Radio” 1240 WHVN/104.3 W282BP Charlotte NC will cease operations on Tuesday, March 31.

The station’s 8.1 acre transmitter site was recently granted rezoning approval by the Charlotte city council to be developed with up to 12,500 square feet of medical office space and up to 25 residential units by Flagship Healthcare Properties.

No word yet on if the translator will be repurposed for another station or if the programming will continue on current simulcaster 1150 WAVO/93.5 W228EJ Rock Hill SC. The station will sign-off at 5pm on Tuesday following a two hour call-in show for listeners to share WHVN memories.

For anyone who would want to hear the WAVO standards format, I have a couple of April Fool's Day posts planned. One will be here and another will be in a private Facebook group.

What group?

Did the station go off the air or not? Wikipedia says no. Wikipedia also says WAVO will continue WHVN's programming. No source is given for either.

WHVN is off. WAVO is running programs as usual.

Tom Gentry explained when the owner passed several years ago it was in the will that his wife be provided for by the sale of his assets when an offer was made that the executor of the will thought was in the best interest of his widow. He didn't say anything about WAVO in his statement so while it's on now I'm not sure how long it will continue. As you know night time power is only 58 watts.

The WHVN tower and transmitter are on Randolph Road in a very desirable section of Charlotte so the land became prime property.

Development has gone crazy here. They are actually building new houses in and around existing neighborhoods.

I know one of the board ops!

From what I have seen, Billy Graham's WMIT FM has picked up WHVN's frequency so "The Light" is now airing here.

I can't get a confirmation from them. You'd think they'd be nicer.

Maybe it's because I admitted that when I drive past their studios (I don't know where the studios are now, but I was referring to the old studio location and forgot), if I am listening to Christian radio it's either 1010 AM (once one of theirs but now conservative Southern gospel, if there is music) or 91.1 FM (BBN).

Now wait a minute. WAVO is supposed to be continuing WHVN's programming. WHVN is the station Blue Ridge Broadcasting wants according to the post above.

So basically they were interested in the FM translators and the Rock Hill station but couldn't get anyone to buy WHVN a 1KW non DA that didn't have a site? That's sad, it shouldn't cost that much to put something up or find a station to diplex with. You would think one of the hispanic groups would be interested in a 24 hour signal.

It'll cost upwards of $30 grand to build a tower or diplex, possibly more if the situation is complicated
