And if what others here have said is true, vendettas against other local operators (especially Saga) may be a key driver in their format choices for move-ins. They attack another guy rather than fill a hole or flank one of their own stations formatically. For example AAA would be a logical choice, but there might be a handful of songs that overlap with the Fox or even 93.3, so you can scratch that one.
So what does that leave as format possibilities? Hard alternative or active rock (with some softening of the Fox)? Smooth jazz? All sports to get back at BNS-AM for snagging the Buckeyes? Christian? Spanish-language? Gospel?
If history is any indication, one thing you can be sure of is that using other CC markets to help predict would be a mistake. Unfortunately they seem to make this kind of decision very differently here. Ahhh, to have an Emmis or an Entercom or a Cox...or even CC management from another market here instead...that would be great! CC/Columbus does a good job with their beachfront properties -- which were already powerhouses when acquired -- but as for the move-ins, fahgettaboutit.

If it IS to be the Brew or something like it, seems like a pretty good move. Something at least a bit different for Columbus, yet still little chance of cannibalizing other CC properties. Assuming I’m right about this all indicating the imminent arrival of “The Brew”... Back in April I suggested this format that’s been such a hit for CC in Milwaukee as one of the formats they should have considered for 93.3:
“CC's WLZT might fit the "great" signal description, and while they've been inching up with their weird format, I can't see it going much further. If they hadn't done the upgrade until today (instead of over a year ago), then I think it's very likely that they would have done something more in Jack's realm musically. While CC itself hasn't done any Jack/Bob's as far as I know, some of their Mix (e.g., Cleveland), River (e.g., Albany) and 80's-based Rock (e.g., Milwaukee) stations have been successful with formats that are musically related to the Jack approach.”

Actually, I believe that's what they were playing last night while they were still the Fox, before the stunting began. If they do become the Brew and do something similar to Milwaukee's Brew, it will be heavily 80's oriented instead.
BTW, http://www.1057thebrew.com now appears to be a mirror for http://www.1057thefox.com instead of Clear Channel Corporate. The Cheers pic appears.
UPDATE: Not two minutes after I posted this, BOTH of the links I cited were instead leading to the Clear Channel corporate site. Then a minute later they both led to Cheers again. Are they actually changing things around, or might there be some technical pc/internet/website development issue that I don't understand?

Actually, I believe that's what they were playing last night while they were still the Fox, before the stunting began. If they do become the Brew and do something similar to Milwaukee's Brew, it will be heavily 80's oriented instead.
BTW, http://www.1057thebrew.com now appears to be a mirror for http://www.1057thefox.com instead of Clear Channel Corporate. The Cheers pic appears.
UPDATE: Not two minutes after I posted this, BOTH of the links I cited were instead leading to the Clear Channel corporate site. Then a minute later they both led to Cheers again. Are they actually changing things around, or might there be some technical pc/internet/website development issue that I don't understand?
