Rumor...naughty rumors

I am hearing that the Ops peeps at BMP do not like the music shift at KTFM but have to do it...
and also that a complete new airstaff is pending...

OUCH.

Speaking of BMP, does anyone know what is going on with KHHL 103.1? When I am driving through New Braunfels, I run into La Lupe 103.1 on my radio scan. Today, it was silent. Does anybody know why this is?

It's been silent for several days now.

Sounds like their automation computer locked up at the transmitter site. I guess the new engineer doesn't want to make the drive all the way over there (the transmitter site is near Yorktown, TX) to get it back up until he goes back to work on Monday. lol

Are they ever going to CP to the new tower location? I thought they were going to move closer to San antonio. Where they are now they can get Victoria and San antonio.

Well I don't think KHHL can be able to move closer to San Antonio proper, because of 103.1 Low Power FM - Air 1 radio in San Marcos. So I am not sure how this station reaches into San Antonio. Radio-locator maps show KHHL coverage in San Antonio in the "Fringe" coverage area.

Last I heard, they weren't going to build on the CP. It wasn't worth the cost of constructing a new tower. They have been trying to sell KHHL for over a year now. Plenty of peeps kicking the tires but none wanting to pay the $600K price. At one point they were willing to take a cash deal of $400K but even then no buyers stepped up. The numbers they have been getting as offers are between $150-$300K. A few smaller groups were willing to pay the $600K price if they carried the note but they didn't (or probably really couldn't) want to do that.

Not really surprising, I guess. When they filed the application (as KTXX) the consensus on the board seemed to be that it didn't amount to much of an upgrade at all, and considering the co-channel protection to KEEP Bandera, it does look pretty grim: https://licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS...?appn=101259552&qnum=5300&copynum=1&exhcnum=1

I dredged up this nugget about the station, which might be of interest:

This station has been a redheaded stepchild of BMP. Very difficult to deliver a signal to the transmitter site as it is literally in the middle of nowhere. Would take multiple STL hops, ISDN long distance fees too expensive, too far out for DSL. Last I knew signal was delivered via satellite uplink which is another reason it's not in stereo. More satellite bandwidth in which to pay for, for a station that's not viable in San Antonio. Never understood why they keep the LMA alive on this station other than bragging rights to claim they have 8 stations in the San Antonio market. ::) Ha! Ha! Ha!

Any idea how they're getting the feed these days?

They are definitely not feeding it via satellite. They have an older Scott Studios automation computer set up at the transmitter site loaded with music and liners that basically acts like a jukebox. No frills...no thrills...just something to keep audio and legal id's on the station. They were operating at reduced power the last time I was out there due to a power module failure on the BE transmitter. The reason they're broadcasting in mono is to reduce all the stereo hash on the outskirts of SA. Basically it cleans up and helps the signal reach the fringe areas a little better.

Sad, just sad. Thanks, infamous; it sounds like that description (redheaded stepchild) still applies!

Most of the time I pick up the 103.1 out of San marcos now. But this afternoon my truck was able to pull in KHHL, and they are still broadcasting nothing. Guess the computer crashed. ???

While on the subject, how does KGGB do a audio feed? I don't listen to it, but its in stereo and sounds decent quality. Its Spanish programing but not sure what kind of format.

The studio is in Victoria and the audio is STL'd out to Yorktown.
