Rumor of the month

Usually reliable sources are telling me Richard Thomas is coming out of retirement to resurrect his air-traffic duties on WSM-AM

Lets just call it traffic duties on WSM-AM. Reliable source tells ME a former WSM news caster may resume news duties. I wonder if that includes farm news?
Stay Tuned.....

Is that the whole farm report or the funny introductions of Louis Langell <sp>?

Obviously Pat -- you never heard and don't have a clue about the farm show that drew an audience on WSM.

oh your right...just couldn't get excited about hog futures..i mean what future does a hog have ?? bacon, ham, pork chops?? that reminds me country style ribs grilled for supper,,,hummmmm now that's a hog future !! :D

Buddy is correct.
An example is WGN another stand alone heritage AM. WGN use to do farm some farm and even farm weather stuff in the #3 market! How many farms are with in 75 miles of Chicago? I would bet not as many as within 75 miles of Nashville. Even The Weather Channel is doing farm weather / soil moisture reports (sponsored by a tractor company) a couple of day of the week. Agribusiness is big

You do have to realize that WGN puts a pretty decent daytime signal in much of the northern 2/3s of Illinois where there is lots of corn and soybean farms once you get about 70 miles from downtown Chicago. Many of the markets for farm futures are located in Chicago as well.

WSM was running a midday report from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture but they seemed to have dropped that in the last few months.

WSM's signal is not too bad. Granted the soil conductivity is very poor, but WSM does cover many rual parts of the area. When we lived in Central City KY, 650 came in day and night.

Very true. In the daytime, I get a pretty strong signal on my car radio on WSM as far north as Metropolis, IL and a listenable fringe signal as far as Marion, IL.
