Rumored Changes at Fisher

"The facts are the facts and there is a clear double standard in most of the media when it comes to politics and social issues"- yup, you are correct about that. The giant conglomerates like Comcast/NBC that own most of the outlets are clearly socialists, right? I am certain the heads of Hearst and Disney really want to pay more in income tax. C'mon, you know better than that, right? These guys are all rock solid fiscal conservatives, every one. But they program for the masses. And if your "facts" are accurate, then the "left-leaning" media is programming to a "left-leaning" society. Which means you are telling most of the US that they are wrong and you are right. And maybe you are. But it has to be kind of lonely, knowing that they are all wrong and only you can save the country.

Any thoughts on Brian Calvert's return to KOMO? I think the is one of the best reporters in the business, but I don't like him as an anchor. I didn't like him with Lisa Brooks, I didn't like him with Nancy Barrick, and I didn't like him when he filled in for Bill Yeend with Manda. KOMO already has Val Stouffer working weekends and fill in, she might have been a better choice.

If Bill Rice is back doing news anchoring (he's the news voice of my childhood, doing the updates on the Ackerly stations), who's doing business news for the morning show? And where is Nancy Barrick going? And what does this mean for Herb Weissbaum, bounced just a short time ago from KOMO for his own Consumer show on Lifestyle talk KVI?

Good thoughts K-Man. Ditto for what happens to Mark Christopher, a great guy and versatile on-air.

As of today Brad Goode and Bill Rice are no longer doing business updates, instead replaced by syndicated updates from the Wall Street Journal. The WSJ reports are well reported and produced, but I missed the local business reports I got used to with almost ten years of Brian Gregory.

AWESOME! Will that mean a job at KOMO-TV as well?

So with Rick Van Cise, Brian Calvert, and Larry Rice all at KOMO 1000, it strikes me that this little radio station has enough TV weathermen working as newscasters to make a full house anywhere in the country.

My take on all of this is Seattle is not giving up on the AM band. Good for them. There still is listenership, and there is still revenue to be made. Of course, the future is simulcasting much of this on FM, and that will likely happen in the next 1-2 years. Fisher may be the exception, because KPLZ still performs well. The rest, well, that is a crapshoot.

But KOMO already IS simulcating on an Olympia big FM signal on 97.7 that gets into the entire market, as far as the other side of Everett. So I'd say Fisher is leading the charge from AM to FM, but with a 50kw AM signal like theirs, with no nighttime interference, it appears they realize that AM 1000 is still worth investing in. But many other Seattle area AM signals, such as 680, 1150, 1250, 1300, 1420, 1460, 1540, are probably "at risk" for their own multiple reasons.

Easy... Most of the media in this country is obviously left leaning. Don't be so upset about an AM station you don't agree with... don't listen. There are plenty of people that like to have an alternative. I though the left was tolerant and "can't we all get along"???

Really? Most of the mainstream media is very centrist -- unwilling to rock the boat. I would just ask that we return to the Fairness Doctrine, where everything is truly fair and balanced.

The Fairness Doctrine will not return because polarity and divisiveness in politics is very profitable.

Well, one big change today at KVI: Laura Ingrahm is off the air as of today after walking away from Talk Radio Networks. She'll probably be back with the same syndicator as Savage, but what a headache for any PD.
