Rumored Move for Star 94

A rumor is going around that Star 94 and 790 The Zone will move into the facility on Interstate North currently occupied by Kicks 101-5 and Atlanta's Greatest Hits 106.7 after those stations' on-air staffs move to Johnson Ferry.

Star of course is in impressive penthouse offices and studios in Buckhead. But the Kicks/AGH facility is a really excellent one, and I think it's bigger than Star's current location. It was built in the Disney/ABC days and obviously not by Citadel.

The reason, according to the rumor, is Lincoln Financial Media would pay less than half its current rent at the Interstate North facility.

Isn't Star at Tower Place (the one with the green glass in Buckhead)? They have been there for years even back in the 94Q days.

Not for many years. They're in Capital City Plaza, also referred to as the Blue Cross building.

That rumor re: Cumulus buying LFM has been out there for years. And while it's probably true that Cumulus might like to do so (recent ratings in female core show Star beating Q-100 in key periods outside morning drive), the LFM stations simply are not up for sale. Some people continue to think they are, but they aren't. After all those years of talk, Lincoln is still operating them here, as well as in their other markets.

The Atlanta rumor mentioned by wirelessfugu continues to pop up because the Cumulus people continue to perpetuate it to create noise.

Fact is, it's crap.

I thought that LFM has been trying to sell the stations ever since they bought Jefferson-Pilot, but has rejected Cumulus's offers as being too low...? Apparently LFM is in no rush and is not running a fire sale.

Just about any radio station (you might have to buy a cluster or the whole company) could be had from a publicly traded company (and most likely a private company too) if the price was right for the owner. It is the price and financing for the new owner that is the issue!

Jerry Del Colliano reignited the Cumulus-buying-LFM speculation with his Inside Music Media newsletter on Monday. Of course, today he's saying Cumulus is after some CBS stations. Hopefully neither will happen.
