Rush Limbaugh has told his audience he has lung cancer

Former KFBK host Rush Limbaugh has revealed a Lung Cancer diagnosis

https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainmen...teners-advanced-lung-cancer/story?id=68728398

Rush Limbaugh revealed Monday that he is fighting advanced lung cancer.

The 69-year-old conservative talk show host said he first realized that something was wrong during his birthday weekend Jan. 12 and got his diagnosis from two medical institutions nine days later. Limbaugh said he wanted to be open so that the public wouldn't start speculating about any future absences or changes to the show while he undergoes treatment.

"Worst thing that can happen is when there is something going on and you try to hide it and cover it up and eventually it’s going to leak and people are like why didn’t you just say it? Why’d you try to fool everybody," he said.

Dang its one of these things where Iheart at some point have to decide who the next talk host will be if and when Rush leaves for good though.

Rush Limbaugh Has Lung Cancer

Rush Limbaugh announced today that he has been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. He just signed an extended contract however the future looks like he will be missing some program time. He states his cancer is advanced.

Though I don’t agree with him there is no debate he is one of the best talk hosts of all time. I wish him the best with this battle.

Sad to report that Premiere Networks syndicated talk host Rush Limbaugh made an on-air announcement Monday that he'd been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.

While Rush is polarizing politically and even socially, he was a major factor in establishing a viable future for AM that has kept the band alive for about 30 years more than it looked like it would have in the late 80's.

Taking advantage of changes in the requirements for equal time that occurred in the prior decade, Rush revitalized AM in the 90's and opened the door for many other commentators and talk hosts.

And he showed that music DJs could do more than wait around for a song to end. I know many air talents who enhanced and extended their careers moving the same way he did!

So my best wishes go out to him... he is a real radio person!

Okay I have heard he has it, why is it posted in Chicago radio, his is not a Chicago radio show, its a national syndicated show, so there are at least a couple of different boards, that would have been where it should have been placed.

I have often disagreed with Rush's views, but I've always been an unwavering admirer of his work, and all he's accomplished. He's a true giant of the industry and I wish him all the best for a complete and speedy recovery.

Rush is part of the air staff at WLS 890. His program is heard in Chicago so reporting it here make sense.

One could say that Limbaugh put WLS back on the map in 1989, after several years of being a shadow of their former "Big 89" selves as a music station. They would never have made it as a talker if he were not there. Other than Don and Roma, their other early '90s local hosts were unmitigated disasters.

I checked Twitter on a break at work and saw Rush's name trending. Figured he'd said something to cause another boycott or had some Republican Senator on his show.

It's not exactly shocking that someone over 70 might have a serious medical diagnosis. But the prognosis for "advanced stage" lung cancer is poor, especially so for Stage IV (the worst), where 5-year survival is under 2%.

I wish Rush well as he fights this, but I would also advise all radio syndicators and programmers to start trying other shows in mid-days, because there's a good chance we won't have Rush much longer.

The folks in country radio just faced the same situation a few months ago when Bob Kingsley died of bladder cancer. No one thinks about it happening. We all hope for the best. But the question inevitably comes around to: How do you replace a legend? How do you replace someone who has defined the format for so long people forget what preceded him. I know the folks at Premiere and iHeart are thinking about that right now. They have a huge stable of local conservative talkers within their company at legendary stations including KFI, WLW, and WRKO. I imagine we'll hear a lot of them in the coming months doing fill-in.

I pretty much always disagree with him, but I'll give him credit for his talent. And, as so many here have said, I wouldn't wish terminal cancer on anyone other than a mass killer, genocidal madman or traitor who caused physical harm (i.e. death and destruction) to his country. Rush is a provocative entertainer, and his takes make my blood boil at times, but he hasn't killed anyone.

I put Rush on little WDSR in Lake City, FL, in 1989 shortly after the company I managed bought its first station outside of Puerto Rico. We picked a tiny market, but wanted to be trend setters.

There were only a couple of people on the staff at Rush's "network" back then. It was not owned, yet, by a big broadcaster; it was a a tiny self-created creation of Rush and his Excellence in Broadcasting network.

We saw how Rush had developed in his first syndication year, and jumped on board. We were one of the first 100 stations. It was a great decision in a conservative, semi-rural small market. And at the beginning, he cut custom promos that included local references we fed him.
