Rush out, Huckabee in? on BIG CUMULUS STATIONS

Heard a couple of talking heads on cable TV saying Cumulus could dump Rush (Premiere) for their own syndicated guy Huckabee...this would be on BIG Stations in BIG markets. The other option: local talent.

Oh man. If Huckabee's on WLS, the peashooter in Joliet wins. The Merlin station would probably even score a 1!

They'd be better off shutting off the carrier and saving the power for 3 hours every day.

Eek a talking head! Yup, while you were taking "barter ads were suspended" ...someone was trying to take the wind out of your sails?

Gee, the Limbaugh folks were saying everything was happy in paradise. I guess they suspended the ads because too many customers were swarming those businesses and they could not keep up?

Wasnt suggesting WGN would pick up Limbaugh but that the last hour of McConnell and first 2 hours of Williams will have have Huck for lunch. If WLS makes the move it wouldnt shock me if Merlin picks up Rush

O'Reilly was supposed to make a big dent in Rush's audience with his radio show. Even though he found an audience, it wasn't at Rush's expense and his radio show is now gone.

Same with Lou Dobbs.

Two respected broadcast veterans couldn't do it, and Mike Huckabee will?

I think Huck will find an audience, but it won't be at Rush's expense. If Cumulus affiliates drop Rush you can bet he'll be picked up by other stations in those markets in a flash.

Great cartoon. This Rush thing is great for the economy, t-shirts, bumper stickers, beer mugs..for and against.

Huckabee might do better with religious folks (does Rush go to church?) - I wonder if he - Huckabee might be picked up by religious stations? That is a BIG market.

It's all how much money they want to spend in promotion to make it happen. Phil Boyce spent a ton promoting
Hannity as an "in house" equivalent to Limbaugh.

Apples and oranges. Hannity wasn't up against Rush.

I have my doubts ... but ... times have changed since O'Reilly and even Dobbs challenged Rush. The lecturing, negative, partisan form of talk radio is thoroughly saturated and wearing thin among many listeners.

At the moment, Rush on WABC is the only news/talk show in the NY tri-state area between noon and 3 (other than Dennis Prager on WNYM, but that signal can't be heard in the entire service area.) WOR airs a "lifestyles" show and a syndicated financial/religious/infomercial show during those hours, so if Rush were replaced by Huckabee, news/talk fans will hear him by default -- there's no place else to turn for news/talk. (No reason to turn to Prager when Huckabee's available with a better signal.)

My guess is WOR would pick up Limbaugh is WABC drops him. What that does to Joan Hamburg and Dave Ramsey is yet to be seen. If they just plugged Rush in from noon to 3, Hamburg would be gone. Ramsey could continue for an hour unless those chose to carry Ramsey's other hour that is not currently clearing and took Ramsey to 5 pm.

I doubt it. WOR would have to PAY for Rush! That's not in their DNA ... they'd rather have someone like Ramsey pay them to carry the show. I wonder if Phil Boyce could convince Salem to pick up Limbaugh.

Other than the Salem line up, they arepay for play outfit. They make an exception in this situation, except that could have a ripple effect. That would make an interesting headline if Rush had to pay to be cleared in NYC.

Wow that sign of Cumulus getting rid of Rush started on New Years Week in San Francisco. This was when Cumulus got rid of Rush from KSFO-AM and the ex-KGO-AM Hosts With Clear Channel taking them to 910AM KKSF.

Did they remove Rush by choice or did Clear Channel do it for them? Premiere has pulled Rush in many markets and given it to a CC station that was flipping to talk.

Dickey said Rush is on 35 Cumulus Stations and that Huckabee might be a better fit. Times change, just because something did happen in the past, does not mean it can't happen in the future. Dr Laura had big ratings in LA for example.

What did Limbaugh have on WABC in the way of ads yesterday? Correctional officers Benevolent Society and a bunch of PSAs???
